Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Harlingen, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings are buried in books and this week they will be reading them to children of all ages in two local appearances related to literacy in the Cameron County area.
On Thursday, March 27, WhiteWings Manager Al Gallagher will be among the celebrity guests visiting Fred Booth Elementary in San Benito. As part of Texas Public School Week, the students will enjoy a Reading Round Up starting at 9:30 am. Gallagher entertains children with his selection of "The Toughest Cowboy."
The reading bonanza continues on Saturday at 12 noon when Gallagher is joined by WildWing, the official mascot of the Harlingen WhiteWings, for the Valle Vista Mall Book Blast. The event is hosted by the Simon Kidgits Club and is open to the public FREE of charge. Book Blast takes place in Dillard's Court from 12 noon until 3:00 pm with Gallagher and the WildWing on hand starting at 1:00 pm.
"Reading is a vital part of the educational process and the WhiteWings are proud to support events that involve improving education," said WhiteWings General Manager Dave Kost. "Visiting schools and being a part of the Valle Vista Mall's Book Blast are two events we are looking forward to and our staff is excited to continue our commitment to the community," added Kost.
Opening Day is set for May 13 when the Wings visit the defending United League Champion Alexandria (LA) Aces. Harlingen Field will be the site for the home opener, scheduled for May 20 at 7:05 pm as the Edinburg Coyotes come to town for the first of a three game set. Season and Single Game tickets are on sale now and more information is available on-line at www.whitewingsbaseball.com.
