Harlingen, TX - Closer Derek Bennett threw four shutout innings of relief as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (10-6) defeated the San Angelo Colts (7-8) 6-5 in ten innings in game one of a doubleheader tonight at Harlingen Field. The game was scheduled to last seven innings.

Bennett picked up his first win after taking over in the seventh, scattering three hits while striking out three in his 64-pitch effort.

The WhiteWings got things going in the bottom of the first inning when Omar Bramasco hit his first home run of the season over the left field wall to make it 1-0. It was the first WhiteWings homer at home this season.

Miguel Peguero and Ryan Fox kept things going with back-to-back walks.

After Jermy Acey hit into a fielder's choice, David Cardona singled in Fox to make it 2-0 against Colts' starter Darryl Roque.

The Colts, however, got to WhiteWings starter Joey Cress for five runs in the top of the second.

Andres Rodriguez led off with a single and was followed by a Bryce Morrison walk. One batter later, Eric Allen singled to load the bases.

Trey Roberson hit a hard single to score a run.

John Beal followed with a grounder to third that Peguero fielded and took to the bag and threw to first for what could have been an inning-ending double play. However, the throw was in the dirt and Fox couldn't scoop it, keeping the inning alive and tying the game 2-2.

Ronnie Gaines came up next and got hit by a pitch, setting up a bases-clearing double by John Anderson to put the Colts up 5-2.

Cress' main problem was an inability to finish the curve ball, hanging several up in the zone. He seemed to find it in the third inning, though, using it to strike out Josh Allan and set up Allen to pop-up on a fastball to end the inning.

Roque, on the other hand, settled down over the next two innings, striking out two and allowing just one batter to reach (on an error).

The Colts threatened against Cress again in the fourth, loading the bases with one out. Jason Crosland hit an infield pop-up with a 3-0 count for the second out. Then Rodriguez hit a broken bat nubber in front of the plate that Ryan Kottke pounced on and threw to first to end the jam.

Roque did not come out for the fifth, getting a no-decision.

Cress ended up lasting 5.2 innings, striking out three and walking two while allowing five runs on eight hits and not factoring into the decision.

The WhiteWings tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Cardona led off with a single and Sam McLain reached on an error by Anderson at second base. One batter later, Andre Jordan hit his third home run of the season to make the score 5-5.

The bullpens took over and threw lights out to send the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the tenth, Chace Vacek came in and walked Miguel Peguero, who was pinch-run for by Andrew Revall. Fox sacrificed him to second and Acey hit an RBI single down the right field line to give the WhiteWings the win.

Danny Bonilla (1-0) will face Brian Henschel (0-2) in game two of tonight's doubleheader.
