Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Harlingen, TX - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings added right-handed pitcher Kenneth Evonick to the roster today. He takes the spot of Jermy Acey, who is on his way to the Nashua Pride (Can-Am League) for a player to be named later.
Evonick last pitched as a junior at Oral Roberts University in 2005. He got one relief appearance against Miami on April 1, going one inning and allowing three runs on two hits with two walks and two wild pitches.
Evonick played at Cuesta College from 2003-2004.
In 2004, he went 3-6 with a 4.29 ERA in 13 games (five starts). In 42 innings he allowed 36 hits.
As a freshman, Evonick went 2-0 with a 4.13 ERA, striking out 21 in 24 innings and allowing 20 hits.
The Valley Springs, California, native is said to throw in the low 90s and could get a chance to start for the WhiteWings, who are looking to solidify the bottom of the rotation.
Evonick is 6'1, 190 lbs, and was born on January 25, 1983.
Acey leaves the team after a successful stint as the WhiteWings starting second baseman and number five hitter.
