VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC selected Spanish midfielder/forward Jorge Gomez Sanchez in the third round (51st overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft on Tuesday.Last Friday, Whitecaps FC selected right back Jakob Nerwinski in the first round (seventh overall) and centre back Francis de Vries in the second round (29th overall) of the SuperDraft.

Started all 36 of his appearances at Temple, tallying 27 goals and eight assists in two years Named to the NSCAA All-East Region and All-American Athletic Conference teams following each of his two years Spanish native played club soccer for Uniî"n Deportiva Talavera and the Club Atlético Osasuna Academy Gomez Sanchez, 21, spent the last two years at Temple University, where he started all 36 of his appearances for the Owls, tallying 27 goals and eight assists from 2015 through 2016.

The 5-foot-8 forward was named to the NSCAA All-East Region and All-American Athletic Conference teams following each of his two years in Philadelphia, being selected to the First Team after his final season. In addition, Gomez Sanchez was named to the Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star Team in 2015, then to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I All-Star Team the following year.

Hailing from Talavera de la Reina in the province of Toledo, Spain, Gomez Sanchez played for Universidad Europea in Madrid prior to making his move to the United States.

In his youth, Gomez Sanchez played club soccer for Uniî"n Deportiva Talavera and the Club Atlético Osasuna Academy at the U18 level.
