Orlando Predators News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 12) -- The Arena Football League announced today that Orlando Predators defensive end GREG WHITE has been named the "ADT Defensive Player of the Week" for his performance against the New Orleans VooDoo on Friday night.

White recorded a career-high three quarterback sacks for a -18 yards to go with a forced fumble and a pair of quarterback hurries in Orlando's 42-33 win over New Orleans. White came up with three key plays late in the fourth quarter to preserve the win. With Orlando clinging to a narrow 35-33 lead, New Orleans had a first and goal on the Predators nine-yard line with less than a minute remaining. On first down, White forced an errant throw from VooDoo quarterback Andy Kelly. On second time, he sacked Kelly for a six-yard loss; while pressure from White and his teammates led to a Kelly interception on third down.

Friday's three quarterback sacks gave White 9.5 on the season, tying him with EJ Burt (2003) and Rupert Grant (2004) for the team record for single season quarterback sacks.

"Greg White is a dominating defensive player and certainly worthy of this honor," Predators head coach JAY GRUDEN said. "When he's in the line-up, good things usually happen for Orlando." Since joining the Predators in 2006, Orlando has compiled a 17-5 record when White is in the starting line-up. The team is 1-6 in games where he didn't play.

Other award winners announced for the week included New York quarterback AARON GARCIA as "Offensive Player of the Week," and Columbus WR/DB BJ BARRRE as "Ironman of the Week." Garcia threw for 264 yards and eight touchdowns as New York beat Philadelphia on Monday night; while Barre scored two touchdowns and recorded eight tackles with a pass defense as Columbus defeated Grand Rapids.

Orlando (6-4 overall, 4-2 Southern Division) returns to action on Sunday against the Austin Wranglers (3-7, 1-3). The game from Austin can be seen locally on Sun Sports beginning at 4 p.m. (EDT) and may be heard on WQTM (740AM - The Team) beginning with a 3:30 p.m. pre-game show.
