
White, Blues Split Scrimmages at Plymouth Whalers Training Camp

PLYMOUTH - Alex Aleardi's penalty shot goal at 9:50 of the second half snapped a 4-4 tie and the Whites defeated the Blues, 5-4, in the afternoon scrimmage today at Plymouth Whalers Training Camp at Compuware Arena.
Aleardi scored earlier in the scrimmage for a two-goal afternoon. Rickard Rakell also scored for the Whites, while Garrett Meurs added a single goal. Tom Wilson scored twice for the Blues, while Stefan Noesen and Zach Bratina added singles.
Riley Corbin played the entire afternoon in goal for the Whites to record the victory. He allowed all four Blues goals. Matt Mahalak allowed all four White goals in the first half, while Alex Nedeljkovic was in net for Aleardi's game-winner for the lone goal in the second half.
The Blues and White played two five-man shootouts in the afternoon session. They tied, 1-1, in the first session, with Chris Albertini scoring for the Whites and Spencer Lee replying for the Blues.
The Blues took the second session, 3-1, with JT Miller, Colin MacDonald and Connor Carrick scoring. Rakell scored for the Whites in the shootout.
The Blues and Whites will scrimmage Friday from 9-11 am and 2-4 pm at Compuware Arena. The scrimmages are open to the public and media.
Plymouth hosts Windsor on Saturday at Yack Arena in Wyandotte at 7 pm in the "Duel Downriver." Proceeds of the games go to the Wyandotte Warrior Hockey Association, Wyandotte Figure Skating Club and Wyandotte Bears High School Hockey.
The game will be broadcast on 88.1FM The Prak WSDP and on www.plymouthwhalers.com starting at 7 pm.
BLUES 2, WHITES 0 - Goaltender Matt Mahalak (Monroe) stopped every shot he faced and Mathieu Henderson and Cody Payne scored goals as the Blues defeated the Whites, 2-0, in the opening scrimmage of Plymouth Whalers Training Camp held this morning at Compuware Arena.
The Blues also won the first half five-man shootout, 2-0, on goals by returning Plymouth veterans JT Miller and Stefan Noesen.
In addition to pitching a shutout over two 25-minutes half, Mahalak stopped ten shootout attempts in a scrimmage that featured good flow.
Henderson - selected by Plymouth in the 7th round (121st overall) in the 2012 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection - scored the only goal of the first half for the Blues at 5:10, threading a shot from the high slot through traffic by White goaltender Riley Corbin. Mitchell Heard drew the lone assist.
6th round draft choice Alex Nedeljkovic took over for Corbin in the second half for the Whites and didn't allow a goal. Payne scored on the empty net with 0:35 left to ice the game for the Blues after Nedeljkovic was pulled for the extra attacker.
The Blues and Whites scored one goal each in the five-man shootout at the conclusion of the second half. Henderson scored for the Blues and veteran Danny Vanderwiel replied for the Whites.
