Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced plans for their first of two Special Theme Jerseys for the 2018-19 Western Hockey League season.

Next Friday, November 23rd when the Wheat Kings play host to the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes, the home team will be taking to the ice in special agriculture theme jerseys, in support of 4-H Manitoba.

The primary color of the jersey will be black with distinctive gold wheat sheaves dominating both arms and trim. As well, the primary logo will feature a Manitoba sun rising above a prairie icon - the grain elevator - the visual symbol of the Canadian prairies, as well as the 4-H Manitoba logo.

The shoulder patches include the Wheat Kings' crown logo as well as the hockey club's farmer brand.

The game worn jerseys will be auctioned off during a silent auction throughout the game against the 'Canes as well as a radio auction on 94.7 Star FM on the morning of November 23rd.

In addition to the auction, fans attending the game will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a special 4-H theme jersey. Tickets will be sold for $2 or three for $5 and the draw will be made during the third period of play.

All proceeds from the sale of the jerseys will go to 4-H Manitoba.

"We are very excited to partner with the Brandon Wheat Kings this year," says Manitoba 4-H Council President Carlie Whetter. "The Wheat Kings are excellent role models for youth and we are thankful for their generosity of spirt spirit in partnering with organizations like ours."

"4-H also fosters the development of youth into role models, which in turn become community builders," she went on to say. "We hope to use funds raised to support youth programming across the province so that our members can continue to Learn to do by Doing."

The Wheat Kings second theme jersey will be held on Saturday, February 16th when Brandon plays host to the league leading Prince Albert Raiders. Members of the Wheat Kings will be wearing special Don Cherry style jerseys, presented by REMAX, in support of Organ Donations.

"I truly believe that fans will love this new 4-H style jersey," says Director of Business Operations and Sponsorship Rick Dillabough. "Not only do I love the wheat sheaves, having a grain elevator as the primary jersey logo really reinforces the hockey club's connection to the agriculture community in western Manitoba."

"By joining forces with 4-H, we have the opportunity to give back to those communities that support us throughout the year," he went to on say.

Anyone wanting to place a bid on a jersey, or those wishing to place a "reserved bid" for any of the game worn jerseys, are asked to contact 4-H Manitoba at (204) 573-7335 or by email to crobins@4h.mb.ca. The deadline for reserve bids will be 6:00pm game night.

The Wheat Kings managed to raise $40,000 through the sale of three theme jerseys during the 2017-18 campaign.
