Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings and Moose Jaw Warriors are back at it again Friday night.

The Wheat Kings, who have won two of three games between the two teams this season, will be facing off against Moose Jaw for the fourth time this season and second at Westoba Place.

One of the club's two victories came three weeks ago when the Wheat Kings edged Moose Jaw in the Wheat Kings' Home Opener before over 4,900 fans.

Following tonight's game, the Wheat Kings and Warriors won't see one another until they close out 2018 with a home and home series between Christmas and New Years.

Former Warrior Luka Burzan, who came to Brandon along with defenceman Chase Hartje and three draft picks for all-star defenceman Kale Clague on Jan. 10, 2018, said familiarity has brought the best out in both Western Hockey League clubs.

"Both teams know each other's players pretty well and we definitely know what to expect for both teams," Burzan told Perry Bergson of the Brandon Sun. "Obviously we have a good rivalry going. I think (tonight) we want to respond the right way. I don't think we played the best game the last time that we went to Moose Jaw so we definitely want to come out with two points."

Since arriving in Brandon at last January's trade deadline, Burzan has three goals and 7 points in eight games against his former club. He enters the weekend, which includes a Saturday night game against Swift Current, with six goals and eight points in 5 games this season.

Captain Stelio Mattheos leads the club in scoring through five games, with nine points, including five goals.

After sweeping the weekend home and home to kick off the regular season, the Wheat Kings fell in overtime to the Warriors last Friday.

Brandon coach David Anning says by getting back Josh Brook and Jeff Woo, the Warriors have improved dramatically.

"By them getting Brook and Woo into the lineup, their backend has changed dramatically," Anning told the Sun. "They're very involved offensively. Obviously Woo has a presence on the ice. We have to make sure we do a good job of knowing when those guys are on the ice and do a good job defending in our end and make sure that we don't give up any looks from the top."

Moose Jaw enters Friday's game, having gone 3-0-1-0 since that opening weekend series with the Wheat Kings.

Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com

Friday night is Drive Away Hunger Night, in support of Farm Credit Canada and presented by Heritage Co-op. Fans are encouraged to bring a food or cash donation to the game for local Food Banks. As well, for every goal scored by Brandon Friday, ticket holders will save 1 cent per litre off their fuel purchase at Heritage Co-op Saturday.

Brandon will continue this 5-game WHL homestand Saturday night against Swift Current, before hosting the Spokane Chiefs on Tuesday night.
