Wheat Kings Embrace the Holiday Season
November 27, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - The holiday season is almost upon us and the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings will be busy over the course of the next few weeks.
Beginning today, members of the hockey club began visiting area schools, distributing complimentary ticket vouchers to all K-4 students in the Brandon School Division.
The tickets are for the annual Shoppers Mall Teddy Bear Toss Night on Saturday, December 15th and are courtesy of five participating partners - Memories Chapel and Pre-Planning Centre, Manitoba Hydro, Motel 6, The Brandon Sun and Brandon's Friendly Neighborhood Comic Shop.
The ticket vouchers can be redeemed at the Keystone Centre box office for a "free" ticket to Brandon's final game before its annual Christmas break.
The game will close out a home and home weekend series with the Saskatoon Blades at Westoba Place.
This year's Teddy Bear Toss is in support of the local Christmas Cheer Registry.
2,500 stuffed animals and toques were collected during last winter's Teddy Bear Toss in Brandon.
Meanwhile, fans attending this Friday night's game against the visiting Regina Pats are being encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy or non perishable food donation to the game as the Wheat Kings will serve as the unofficial kick off to this year's Westman & Area Traditional Christmas Dinner Holiday campaign.
The Westman Dinner was established in 1985 by Rocky Addison, his family and a few close friends.
The first dinner was attended by 30 people and was held in a small church on the corner of 8th Street and Victoria Avenue in Brandon, Manitoba which Rocky owned. It outgrew the capacity of the church and was moved to the Prairie Oasis Senior Centre. The number of people attending the dinner increased to a point where the dinner had to be moved once again to a larger facility - The Victoria Inn. This past Christmas we delivered approximately 1500 meals to shut-ins and served 2000 meals to those who attended the dinner.
Brandon has four home games remaining before Christmas. In addition to both Teddy Bear Toss Night and this Friday night's game, presented by Assiniboine Community College, the Wheat Kings will host Medicine Hat on Tuesday, December 4th and the league leading Prince Albert Raiders on Friday, December 7th.
Tickets to all remaining games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
