Whalers Edge The Outlaws In Overtime

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Toms Tilla's goal with 2:37 left in overtime lifted the Whalers over the Outlaws for the second time in as many nights.

For the Outlaws, it is a tough pill to swallow after leading the Whalers for the majority of the night.

Williamsport jumped on the board early with a goal from Martin Moucha at 17:09 gave the Outlaws a 1-0 lead and the early momentum against their rivals from Connecticut.

Though the first period didn't see much scoring, there was definitely no shortage of action. As expected after last night's physical game, Outlaws Rob Sich didn't waste any time finding a partner to throw down with, as he and Andrew J. Willock dropped the gloves a little over five minutes into the game.

Dan McNeill was called for a four minute double minor in the period after taking Kelly Miller to the ice and delivering a couple blows to the forward.

The scoring opened up in the second period, in favor of the Outlaws who found themselves up 2-0 after a laser of a shot from Matt Smyth off a Martin Moucha faceoff win at the 1:53 mark. Danbury answered back quickly when Tyler Noseworthy scored his first goal of the season at the 3:49 mark. Not to be outdone, the Outlaws surged back to take a 3-1 lead on Chris Leveille's first goal of the season.

For the second straight night, the third period was a nightmare for the Outlaws, as it looked like the fatigue factor set in. The Whalers took full advantage scoring their second goal of the night at 6:45 mark when Cody Ayers lit the lamp to make it 3-2.

The Outlaws did what they could to run the clock out as their legs began to fade, but Anthony Pisano found the twine with 1:06 left in the game, sending it to overtime.

Overtime didn't fare well for the Outlaws, as the tank looked to hit empty and they couldn't seem to get anything started in the offensive zone, while the Whalers continued to generate offensive chances.

Toms Tilla beat Mike DiLorenzo, who played magnificently in place of Chris Whitley, to give the Whalers their second win of the season.

DiLorenzo finished the night with 42 saves of 46 shots taken by the Whalers. Mike Brown, who got stronger as the night rolled along finished with 27 saves of 30 Outlaws shots.

The Outlaws travel to Alex Bay, New York tomorrow for a showdown against the 1000 Island Privateers at 7:35pm.
