Westmont Hilltop Takes Inaugural Tomahawks Cup with 7-2 Win

Westmont Hilltop defeated Greater Johnstown 7-2 to win the inaugural Tomahawks Cup tournament title on Monday night at the Cambria County War Memorial.

The Hilltoppers jumped out to a 3-0 lead, thanks to a pair of goals by Brandon Leech in a span of less than two minutes. Leech scored his first goal at 5:29 and his second at 7:19. Liam Moran and T.J. Smith added assists on the first goal, while Austin DeGrange and Michael Lamison added assists on the second goal. Stephen DeMarco gave the Hilltoppers their third goal at 9:41. Austin Crespo and Leech added assists on the goal.

The Trojans got on the board in the second period, as Jordan Lonsinger scored on a shot from above the left faceoff circle at 7:00. Devin Smith and Vince Walters added assists on the goal. Less than two minutes later, the Hilltoppers made it 4-1, as Lamison scored a power-play goal. Ty Rikabaugh added the lone assist on the goal. Later in the period, the Hilltoppers made it a four-goal lead, as Moran scored at 12:43. Leech added the assist on the goal for his fourth point.

In the third period, Leech connected on the final two goals of the game, scoring a power-play goal at 1:32 and an even-strength goal at 6:31. Johnstown scored its second of the game, as Smith scored at 11:41. Zach Thomas and Jillian Foster added assists on the goal.

Sebastian Ragno earned the win, stopping 13 of 15 shots. Lukas Enos, stopped 32 of 39 shots in the loss.

In the consolation game, Richland defeated Bishop McCort 6-3. The Rams got on the board first on a Jason Edsall goal nine seconds into the game. The Crimson Crushers tied the game later in the period on a power-play goal by Chris Miller at 4:26. The Rams picked up two more first period goals from Bryce Bostian and Zach Wesner at 9:18 and 12:57 to take a 3-1 lead after one period.

In the second period, the Rames extended their lead to 4-1, as Bostian scored a shorthanded goal at 3:36. Bishop McCort got its second of the game, as Connor Bunn scored a power-play goal at 9:58. Richland's Zach Wesner added a power-play goal late in the period to make it a 5-2 game. In the third period, the Crimson Crushers got a goal from Conner Hagins at 12:53, before the Rams set the final at 6-3 on an empty net goal by Jeremy Patula at 13:57.

Garrett Wingard earned the win, stopping 24 of 27 shots. Boston Bradley stopped 17 of 23 in the loss.

The Tomahawks thank everyone involved with making the inaugural Tomahawks Cup a huge success, including the fans who came out for two nights of exciting high school hockey action.
