Topeka Pilots News Release
A game that looked well in hand for Topeka fell by the wayside as Lone Star Battled back to send the game to overtime, winning in a shootout 5-4.
ÃâàÃâàÃâàÃâàTied at two in the second, Tyler Poulsen and Mike Gornall combined for two goals (at 9:51 and 11:36 respectively) to put the Runners ahead semi-comfortably heading into the third. In the final frame, Matt Lison narrowed the gap to 4-3 with a goal at 3:09. Topeka was able to hold that lead until Sebastian Vidmar beat PJ Bridges at 13:15, tying the game at 4-4 and sending the contest into overtime.
ÃâàÃâàÃâàÃâàThe five minute extra period went quietly leading to a shootout. Matt Lison made good on Lone Star's first attempt while Topeka failed to find the net on their first two. Liam Stirtzinger gave the Brahmas a two goal edge on their third attempt, forcing the Runners to make their next three to win or keep the shootout alive. Michal Uhrik finally posted a goal on the fourth attempt but Sebastian Vidmar ending all hope with Lone Star's fifth attempt, securing the win for the Brahmas and halting the Runners five-game winning streak.
ÃâàÃâàÃâàÃâàÃâàOn the night, Poulsen had two goals to go with Rennaker and Gornall's one-a-piece. In addition to his shootout game winner, Vidmar led the way for Lone Star with two goals in regulation. Bridges saw his record in net fall to 14-3-1 after stopping 12 of 16 shots in the overtime loss.
ÃâàÃâàÃâàÃâàThe Runners hit the road for four weeks, returning to Landon Arena on February 28th. RoadRunner 2014-2015 season tickets are now on sale. Fans who purchase or renew season tickets on or before February 15th will receive a free ticket to every game this March as part of the RoadRunners March Madness promotion.
