Westchester Knicks Fly Past BayHawks

December 21, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release

WHITE PLAINS - The Westchester Knicks (11-4), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, outpaced the Erie BayHawks (4-8) at the Westchester County Center tonight, the final score 100-92.

Erie put the first three points on the board, but Westchester responded with a 13-0 run for a comfortable lead early on. The BayHawks struggled to find their groove in the first, shooting just 28.6 percent while the Knicks racked up 35 points on 14-for-20 shooting. Thirteen points from Westchester forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo gave the Knicks an extra boost to give the home team a 12-point advantage at the end of the first.

The BayHawks flew into the second quarter a different team, gaining a quick eight points to pull within four. Westchester held steady though, and never gave up the lead as both teams struggled offensively. Each side managed just 19 points in the quarter and the Knicks held on to their 12-point lead at the half.

The third quarter was all Erie as the BayHawks took off on a 12-2 run to start. The visitors came within one point off a Myck Kabongo jumper, but the irrepressible Knicks refused to give up the lead. Some back-and-forth continued with Erie ultimately winning the quarter on 28 points, but Westchester's early advance gave the Knicks the slight edge heading into the final twelve minutes.

A combined 15 points from guard duo Jimmer Fredette and Travis Trice II in the fourth put Westchester back into a comfortable command as the Knicks took back as much as a 14-point lead. A strong push from Kabongo, who had nine points in the quarter, would not be enough for Erie as the BayHawks fell 100-92.

Jimmer Fredette paced the Knicks with 19 points, also supplying two rebounds and two assists. Thanasis Antetokounmpo finished his night with 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a blocked shot. Darion Atkins posted a double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points, also adding three blocked shots.

Myck Kabongo and Devyn Marble finished with sixteen points apiece, Kabongo also adding six assists and five rebounds. Three BayHawks scored 12 points each: Alex Davis, Jordan Sibert, and Derrick Caracter; Davis and Caracter also notched eight rebounds.
