GRAND RAPIDS, MICH - The Grand Rapids Drive, the NBA Affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, announced today that the team has waived Ashton Pitts and has added Derrick Nix to the 2015-16 roster.
Nix, a 6-foot-9, 270-pound center from Michigan State University (2009-2013) went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft making him an unrestricted free agent and has spent the last few years playing basketball overseas. During his four-year career at MSU, Nix make the 2010 NCAA Final Four his freshman year but had the best season his senior year where he averaged 9.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists as MSU made the Sweet 16.
Nix will wear number 34 while with the Grand Rapids Drive.
The Drive (6-8) start off the holiday season with a home game on Dec. 23, 2015against the Canton Charge (4-9), the NBA D-League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tipoff is at 7 PM.
