Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Salmon Kings and the Alaska Aces begin a three-game set tonight at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Goaltender Jean-Phillipe Lamoureux gets the start for the Aces while the Salmon Kings countered with Todd Ford.

Victoria found the back of net first when Wes Goldie collected his 20th of the year with a wrap-around to beat Jean-Phillipe for the 1-0 lead. The teams would head to the locker room after 20 minutes with the Salmon Kings leading 1-0.

The Aces tied it up with a goal from Alexandre Imbeault when he batted it in past Ford. The second period saw end-to-end action as both teams had chances but after 40 minutes the game was tied at one goal a piece.

The Salmon Kings jumped out quickly 16 seconds into the final frame when Curtis Billsten was sprung on a breakaway. Billsten picked the right top corner to give the Kings a 2-1 lead. Victoria made it 3-1 just 56 seconds later when Wes Goldie and Darryl Lloyd took off on a two man breakaway. Goldie beat Lamoureux for his second of the night. Alaska closed to within one when Colin Hemingway fired a shot top corner past Ford. With two Salmon Kings players in the penalty box and the goalie pulled in the last minute of the game, Todd Ford stood his ground on a 6-on-3 power play. Goldie notched his hat trick goal short-handed on the empty net with one second to play. Salmon Kings 4 Aces 2.

The Salmon Kings and Aces meet on Friday and Saturday evenings with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. both nights. The Kings will then take Christmas off before starting a three game road trip in Stockton on the 27th.
