Wenatchee Takes First Win in Series against Odessa

February 24, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release

In their sixth series before the end of the season, the Wild have traveled 16 hours to Odessa, Texas to take on the Odessa Jackalopes. After the conclusion of this match, Wenatchee would walk back to the visitors locker room with a 4-2 win. This game proved to be quite the agressive one seeing as almost an hour and a half worth of penalties were recorded by both benches. With fewer and fewer games remaining before the post season starts, the league will undoubtedly see an influx of dropped gloves and chart topping amounts of PIMs (Penalty in Minutes). Dakota Raabe and Mike Coyne were awarded with the 1st and 3rd Stars of the Game.

Scoring the lone goal of the first period, Dakota Raabe started the game off on the right foot for Wenatchee with his point occurring sixteen minutes and thirty three seconds into the frame on the power play. Raabe was able to receive assistance from Ryan Chiasson and Mike Coyne.

Chris Jones opened the second period with his goal five minutes and twenty seconds into the frame. David Powlowski and Kyle Stephan picked up the assists. Roughly two minutes later, Raabe put the Wild up 3-0 with another power play goal that was assisted by Chris Jones and August Von Ungern-Sternberg. Coyne scored the Wild's fourth and final goal of the game at the 12:35 mark. This was a short handed, unassisted, and empty net goal.

One minute and forty five seconds into the third period, Derek Brown scored the Jackalopes' first goal with the help of Kenny Hausinger. Odessa's last goal of the game was netted at the 18:33 minute mark once again by Brown. Hausinger once again had the sole assist.

Wenatchee out shot Odessa 35-31 and went two for three on the power play. The Wild took 31 penalty minutes and infractions were dealt to Tyler Rockwell (Hooking) (Holding), Dan Bailey (Holding), Ivan Bondarenko (Delay of Game) (Roughing), Ryan Chiasson (Fighting (Major)) (Fighting (Misconduct)) (Hooking), Donovan Ott (Checking from Behind), and Chris Jones (Slashing).

Zach Quinn was the Wild's goaltender for the night and he was able to stop 29 shots on goal out of 31.

After the game, Coach Littler stated, "I was happy the first forty minutes. Odessa had the better of the chances in the third. Not sure if the 16 hour trip had anything to do with it. We will need to be better tomorrow."

The last game of this series will begin at 7:05 pm CST tomorrow, February 21st.
