Wells Named New Moose Assistant Coach

The Manitoba Moose are pleased to announce today the hiring of Jay Wells as the hockey club's new Assistant Coach.

Wells comes to the Moose from the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears. The native of Paris, ON began his coaching career in 1997 as the Assistant Coach for both Portland and Hershey of the American Hockey League from 1997-01. During that time, the Bears compiled a record of 147-133-31-9 in 320 games.

Prior to that, Wells played in the NHL for almost 20 years holding spots on the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, and Tampa Bay Lightning. He played 1098 games in the NHL earning 47 goals, 216 assists, for a total of 263 points and 2359 penalty minutes in the regular season. In 1979-80 season, Wells held a spot on the AHL's Binghamton Busters totaling six assists, six points and 48 penalty minutes in 28 games played.

Wells will replace Brad Berry who is leaving the organization after two years.

Wells will join Scott Arniel and Rick St. Croix on the Moose bench as part of the coaching staff. Arniel is entering his third season as the Manitoba Moose Head Coach while St. Croix is entering his fourth as Assistant Coach. Wells and Arniel were both members of OHL's Kingston Canadians in 1978-79 as well the Buffalo Sabres in 1989-90.
