Week's Best Have Sockers Ties

November 10, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Victor Nogueira, San Diego Sockers

Nogueira snags the League's weekly goalkeeping honors thanks to two superlative performances last week. On Thursday, November 6, the 44-year-old saved 12 of 13 shots in a 3-1 Sockers win over Dallas. Nogueira shut out the Sidekicks for the first 56 minutes of the game before Patrick Shamu dented the twine at 11:20 of the fourth. And on Sunday, November 9, Nogueira held the Kansas City Comets (who entered the game with the MISL's best offense) to three goals, turning away 16 of 19 shots in a 6-3 victory. For the season, Nogueira now ranks third in the League with a 4.13 goals against average and is second in minutes played (363), third in saves (72), and fifth in save percentage (.742). The native of Mozambique won his record ninth Goalkeeper of the Year Award in 2002-03, and earned four Defensive Player of the Week and three Defensive Player of the Month Awards a season ago. This is the 23rd weekly award earned by Nogueira in this League, second all-time.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sean Bowers, San Diego Sockers

Bowers joins teammate Victor Nogueira in earning weekly honors after scoring two goals and blocking four shots in two San Diego wins last week. The 35-year-old blocked three shots in the Sockers' 3-1 win over Dallas on November 6, and rejected one more shot in Sunday's 6-3 triumph over Kansas City. Bowers also scored two first-quarter goals against the Comets, helping the Sockers to a season-best offensive output. The native of San Diego has now scored four goals and five points while blocking seven shots in 2002-03.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carlos Farias, Baltimore Blast

Farias exhibited his playmaking ability in Baltimore's 8-4 win over the Monterrey Fury on Saturday night at 1st Mariner Arena. The 27-year-old recorded four assists in the contest. With the Blast leading 2-1 in the second quarter, Farias created a pair of goals (at 9:12 and 13:59) to give Baltimore a 4-1 edge heading into halftime. "Chile" also helped close out the win by assisting on the Blast's final two goals, both late in the fourth. Farias has now scored two goals and eight points in his first five games for Baltimore, and is tied for third in the League with six assists. He tallied 37 goals and 111 points (second in the MISL) and earned Second Team All-MISL honors for the San Diego Sockers in 2002-03. Farias was traded to Baltimore in exchange for Defensive Player of the Week Sean Bowers during the offseason.
