PICKENS CLOSING IN ON RAPIDS SHUTOUT RECORD: Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens needs just one more clean sheet to tie Joe Cannon for the most all-time shutouts for the Rapids (25), and could achieve the milestone this weekend against Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday. With the 2-0 victory against Chicago at home on April 1, Pickens earned his 24th regular season shutout for Colorado and the 35th of his MLS career.
RAPIDS DROP 2-0 RESULT IN FIRST MATCH OF SUBARU ROCKY MOUNTAIN CUP: The Colorado Rapids fell 2-0 to rivals Real Salt Lake in the first leg of the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup last Saturday, April 7. Real Salt Lake now hold first place in the Western Conference, and the Rapids sit in third behind San Jose. Salt Lake's Alvaro SaborÃ-o and Fabian EspÃ-ndola supplied the goals, with replays showing that EspÃ-ndola controlled the ball with his hand before netting his third of the season. Despite maintaining a majority of the possession and creating several chances in the second half, the Rapids were unable to overcome the deficit. The second and third legs of the derby will be played at Salt Lake on July 21 and in Colorado at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on August 4. For tickets to the home match, call 303-825-GOAL or visit www.ColoradoRapids.com.
RESERVES DEFEAT RSL 1-0 ON CASCIO GOAL: The Colorado Rapids Reserves defeated the Real Salt Lake Reserves on Sunday, with the only goal coming from Tony Cascio despite the Rapids having many scoring opportunities throughout the game. Rapids homegrown player Davy Armstrong found Cascio behind the defense in the 26th minute for the goal, and Andre Akpan, Kamani Hill and Kohei Yamada all narrowly missed chances to extend the lead. The Rapids Reserves are now 2-2-0 and are tied for first place in the Central/Mountain Division (along with the Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas at six points), and next face Sporting Kansas City on the road on April 24 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.
