ICE CHIPS: The KOOTENAY ICE enter this week's action with a 17-25-1-0 record (13-12-1-0 at home, 4- 13-0-0 on the road, 1-1 in overtime, 2-0 in shootouts) and tied for 11th place in the EASTERN CONFERENCE...KOOTENAY had their season high seven game win streak snapped January 12 in SPOKANE (December 29 - January 11)...The ICE will play eight of their next nine games on the road, including four games this week in the EAST DIVISION (SASKATOON - January 15, PRINCE ALBERT - January 16, REGINA - January 18, MOOSE JAW - January 19).

DID YOU KNOW: JOEY LEACH has been named Captain for remainder of the 2012-2013 season...AUSTIN VETTERL played in his 100th WHL career game on January 11 against MEDICINE HAT (VANCOUVER / KOOTENAY)...WYATT HOFLIN recorded his first WHL career win against the TIGERS on January 11 (26 Saves)...BROCK MONTGOMERY, who needs two more points to reach 100 in his WHL career, recorded his second career WHL hat trick against MEDICINE HAT on January 11...SAM REINHART also recorded his second career WHL hat trick in the same game against the TIGERS...JOEY LEACH, who has recorded 120 points in his WHL career (24-96-120), needs to play in five more games to reach 250 in his WHL career...JON MARTIN needs to play in one more game to reach 100 in his WHL career...TANNER MUTH has played in 195 WHL games (SEATTLE / SWIFT CURRENT / KOOTENAY).
TRANSACTIONS: KOOTENAY traded 18-year-old Defenseman MIKE SIMPSON to the LETHBRIDGE HURRICANES in exchange for a fifth round draft pick in the 2013 WHL BANTAM DRAFT on January 9...The ICE traded 19-year-old Forward ERIK BENOIT to the SASKATOON BLADES in exchange for a fourth round draft pick in the 2013 WHL BANTAM DRAFT on January 10...KOOTENAY added 18-year-old Defenseman LANDON PEEL (December 4, 1994) from the SWAN VALLEY STAMPEDERS (38-9-23-32-45) of the MANITOBA JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE to their roster on January 10 ... The ICE are carrying 21 players (two goaltenders, six defensemen, 13 forwards).
SCORING STREAKS:
SAM REINHART (6-4-10) and JAEDON DESCHENEAU (3-5-8) have both recorded at least a point in their last six games...JOEY LEACH (2-7-9) had his seven game point end against the CHIEFS on January 12.
ONE YEAR AGO: After 43 games of the 2011-2012 season the ICE were 25-13-2-3, after 44 games were 26-13-2-3 and after 45 games were 26-13-3-3.
UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENT: -Special Olympics Bowling, January 21st from 2:00 - 3:00 pm. Selected Kootenay ICE Players will be bowling with the Special Olympics group.
