Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, swept the Janesville Jets this weekend at McMorran Arena to push their winning streak to four games. Port Huron earned a 4-0 victory Saturday night, and a 3-1 win Sunday afternoon.

The Fighting Falcons improved to 28-12-8 with the wins, and at 64 points they now hold an eight-point edge in the NAHL's North Division standings.

Head Coach Michael Gershon set a new Fighting Falcons franchise record with his 51st and 52nd wins over the weekend, surpassing former coach Bill Warren's mark of 50 wins. Gershon will set another milestone when he coaches his 100th game with the Fighting Falcons this Saturday.

Outstanding goaltending has been one of the biggest factors in Port Huron's winning streak, as the team has allowed just three goals in the last four games. Max Milosek earned his fourth shutout of the season with 33 saves Saturday, and has shutouts in consecutive starts. Alex Blankenburg stopped 21 of 22 Janesville shots Sunday to match Milosek with his 14th win of the season.

In four home starts in 2014, Milosek has twice as many shutouts (4) as goals allowed (2), and has held opponents scoreless in 14 of 15 periods.

The Fighting Falcons scored in all three periods Saturday, andTaylor Fernandez's first period goal would turn out to the game winner. Bryce VanHorn, Jonathan Kopacka and Bryan Yim all chipped in with a goal apiece. Noah Batis, Kopacka, Yim and Vito Aluia each had one assist Saturday.

Janesville broke their scoreless streak with Sunday's first goal, coming from Tyler Rehm just past the midway point of the first period. The Fighting Falcons answered back late in the second period, as Zach Badalamenti and Bryan Yim scored goals 29 seconds apart to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. Vito Aluia added a third period score to make it 3-1, clinching the weekend sweep. Logan Lambdin, Lucas Little, Matt Seidel, Alex Archibald and Yim each added an assist Sunday.

The sweep ends the regular-season series between Port Huron and Janesville, with the Fighting Falcons going 6-1-1 against the Jets. Janesville is still in contention for a playoff spot, and may be back at McMorran Arena for an early April playoff matchup.

The Fighting Falcons will hit the road the next two weekends, as they travel to the Soo for the final time of the regular season this weekend before wrapping up the season series with the Springfield Jr. Blues March 7 and 8.

The team returns to home ice Wednesday, March 12 for a 6 p.m. matchup with the in-state rival Michigan Warriors. The Fighting Falcons are just 2-4-2 against the Warriors this season, with four games remaining against Michigan in March.

Tickets to any Fighting Falcons home game are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office, starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. For more information, call the team's front office at (810) 966-3800.
