One-Third:
The Jacks are officially one-third of the way through their 2021-22 season. They have played 20 games and are in third place in the South. They also have already tied their win total from last season (12-36-4-4). Odessa is 7-4-0-1 against teams from Texas. They have a combined record of 3-1 versus New Mexico and Shreveport. Amarillo, New Mexico, and El Paso all picked up sweeps last weekend while the Jacks had a bye week. With the Jacks still playing one more game than most teams from the South, this weekend is crucial to try and regain first place.
Struggle Bus:
The Mudbugs currently find themselves in uncharted territory, as they sit in last place in the division. This is their sixth season in the NAHL. Their worst finish was fourth during the Covid-19 season which was never finished. Out of their four completed seasons, the Mudbugs have won the Robertson Cup twice (2018, 2021). Not only is this their worst start to a season but, they are also on their longest losing streak in franchise history (0-4-0-2). They are also 1-6-0-3 in their last ten games. Their last win came back on Oct. 30th versus Corpus Christi (4-1). Shreveport also has scored the fewest goals in the league (40). This weekend will also end their 12-game road trip. They have scored 19 goals and allowed 34 during their current road trip.
Goals Galore:
The Jacks are tied with New Mexico for the second-most goals in the South Division (62). Amarillo and Wichita Falls are tied for first with 63. Shreveport has only 40 goals so far and they have allowed 61. Their minus-21 goal differential is the worst in the South and fourth-worst in the NAHL. The fewest goals that Shreveport has scored in a season were back in 2018-19 when they registered 163. As for Odessa, their fewest was 73 which was just two years ago. The most goals the Jacks have ever scored in a season were in 2017-18 (192). Shreveport recorded their most franchise goals in a season last year with 205.
