Weekend Preview: Two Divisional Games for IceMen

November 5, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

WE MEET AGAIN

Evansville's most common opponent, the Indy Fuel, arrives for the second time this week on Friday for a 7:15pm game at the Ford Center. This is the third of 11 total meetings this season between the two Indiana rivals, and third of six contests between the two teams in Evansville. The Fuel won the first meeting 3-1 on Oct. 17, and Indy blanked the IceMen Wednesday morning 3-0 on Education Day. Mac Carruth earned his second win over Evansville this season and stopped all 22 IceMen shots for his first shutout. Indy was fueled with goals from Kyle Stroh, Garett Bembridge and Dylan Clarke.

MOON LANDING

Fan-favorite Nathan Moon returns to Evansville, after the IceMen acquired the forward in Thursday's trade with the Colorado Eagles. Moon racked up 27 goals and 54 assists in 96 games for Evansville spanning three seasons, and was traded to Colorado after one game early last year, where he recorded 42 points (13 goals, 29 assists) in 47 games for the Eagles. In order to get Moon, Evansville traded rookie forward Joe Zarbo to Colorado. Zarbo had two goals in five games for the IceMen.

ADDED FUEL TO THE FIRE

Former IceMen forward Dylan Clarke leads Indy in scoring through seven games with four goals and five assists. The winger picked up a third period power-play goal Wednesday at the Ford Center after assisting on the Fuel's first period goal. Clarke fought twice in the teams' first meeting Oct. 17, once against IceMen defenseman Jonathan Carlsson and one more versus Evansville rookie Vincent Dunn. Across the way, Evansville is looking to get in the win column at the Ford Center. The IceMen have dropped their first three home games for the first time in team history, and are looking to bounce back Friday before traveling to Cincinnati Saturday.

LIKE A CYCLONE

The IceMen will get their first look at Midwest Division rival Cincinnati Saturday when the two teams skate in the first of nine meetings this season. The Cyclones have started the season strong and have allowed the fewest goals (eight in five games) of anyone in the division. Cincinnati was led by youngster Eric Robinson, who had three goals and three assists in four games, but the rookie forward was called-up to the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals Tuesday. Goaltender Brad Thiessen has been nearly unbeatable. Thiessen has won three of his first four starts, and his only blemish was a shootout loss Wednesday versus Toledo. His goals-against average is a miniscule 0.98 and his save percentage is 96.5%.

Both games will be broadcast on www.evansvilleicemen.com and ECHL TV. Coverage starts Friday at 7pm with the pregame show featuring comments from Head Coach Al Sims. Saturday's broadcast will start at 7:20pm EDT for the 7:35pm game.
