Week Fourteen Preview: Bloomington Extreme

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado Ice (5-6) have fallen below .500 for the first time this season with a 56-38 loss to Billings on Sunday, June 17. This week they face the Bloomington Extreme (5-6) for their first meeting on Saturday, June 23, at 6:05 p.m. CT/7:05 p.m. MT at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Ill. The Ice are sitting third in the Western Conference while the Extreme are holding on to fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Bloomington will be only the second Eastern Conference team Colorado has faced this season. They lost to the RiverCity Rage in week three. Both teams are looking to snap out of current losing streaks; the Ice have lost their past two contests while Bloomington has lost their past three. The Extreme are ranked last among the eleven teams in the League in total defense, allowing 259.4 yards a game compared to the Ice, who are ranked sixth, allowing 209.6 yards a game. The Bloomington offense is third in the League with a 79.2 percent efficiency in the red zone.

Colorado running back Eugene Reed is in second with 535 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. Defensive back Travis Garcia has pulled in five interceptions to tie for second with Shannon Poppinga of Sioux Falls. Bloomington's receiving duo of James Walton and Reggie Gray have 1192 yards and 24 touchdowns between them to rank third and eighth, respectively. Bloomington's Mike Crumpler is fifth with 63 total tackles while Colorado linebacker Ryan Palmer sits third. Walton and Reed are tied for tenth in scoring, each contributing 78 points.

Saturday, June 30, at 6:05 p.m. CT/7:05 p.m. MT the Ice will take on the Sioux Falls Storm for the third and final match up this season. Colorado will then return home to host the Sioux City Bandits and the Omaha Beef for the final two regular season games on July 7 and July 14, respectively. Kickoffs for both games are set for 7:05 p.m. MT at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo.

Ice in the Community This Week

FORT COLLINS - The Colorado Ice will continue their work in the community with several events this week. Wednesday, June 20, players will help the New Life Community Church's ALIVE youth group with their football skills in Eaton, Colo. The players will hang out with the kids and teach them new drills during their football camp.

Thursday, June 21, players will head to the Loveland Probation Center in Loveland, Colo. to speak about making good choices and the importance of becoming upstanding citizens. Colorado Ice players are great role models for young kids to look up to. They will be there from 4-5 p.m.

The Ice will be supporting the Hope Lives! breast cancer survivor support center with another charity car wash at Ghent Chevrolet in Greeley, Colo. on Saturday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Players, cheerleaders, ball babes and staff will be in attendance throughout the day. The Ice have helped Hope Lives! with their bridesmaids for bowling, 5K runs and other fundraisers earlier this year.

Several players will also be signing autographs and talking to families during the Outlets at Loveland model search on Saturday, June 23, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Loveland, Colo.

Ice Lineman Practices with AFL Team

Colorado Ice offensive lineman Ross Weaver tried out Thursday with the Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League. Weaver has started twice on the offensive line for the Ice since he was signed on May 9, 2007.

Weaver graduated in 2005 from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. where he played for four years. He started every game his junior and senior years and was third on the team in tackles his junior year. Weaver started as a backup tight end but was moved to offensive tackle. He was a three-year letter winner in football at Ponderosa High School. He was honorable mention All-State his senior year and named All-League as a junior.
