Week at a Glance: Mayhem Set to Travel to Fayetteville on Friday

MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem swept a two-game home-and-home this past weekend against the Columbus Cottonmouths, and the team will play just one game this weekend, on Friday night against the Fayetteville FireAntz.

WEEKEND RECAP

On Friday night, the Mayhem travelled to the Columbus Civic Center, and the team skated away with a 4-3 win over the Cottonmouths. After taking a 3-0 lead after the first period, Columbus stormed back to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of the second period. The final goal was scored with 45 seconds left in the game, when Mayhem captain Matt Summers scored the game-winning-goal. Jordan Ruby earned his seventh win, saving 32 of the 35 shots he faced in the game. The other goal-scorers for the Mayhem were Collin MacDonald, Dennis Sicard, and Joel Wetmore.

The two teams travelled back to the Macon Coliseum to play on Friday night, and they played another thriller, as the Mayhem won 5-4 in overtime. After Riley Spraggs opened the scoring two minutes into the game for Columbus, the Mayhem stormed back. With two goals from Mark Rivera and one from Jake Trask, Macon headed to the first intermission up 3-1. Columbus would crawl closer in the second period with a goal from Derek Gingera. In the third period, the Cottonmouths would score two more goals to take a 4-3 lead with about eight minutes left. Dennis Sicard would then score a couple of minutes later to tie the game 4-4. Two minutes into overtime, Matt Johnson scored the game-winning-goal. Troy Passingham earned his second win, saving 25 of the 29 shots he faced.

MAYHEM IN THE COMMUNITY

Monday, December 19th (1:30-3:00 PM): Macon Mayhem players will be delivering a portion of the teddy bears from the team's Teddy Bear Toss to the Coliseum Medical Center.

Thursday, December 22nd (2:00-4:00 PM): The team will be delivering a portion of the teddy bears collected from the Teddy Bear Toss to the Houston Medical Center.

WEEKEND PREVIEW

The Mayhem will travel to the Crown Coliseum on Friday, December 23 to play against the Fayetteville FireAntz. The last time the two teams faced, the Mayhem won 3-2 in overtime in Fayetteville. The Mayhem are 2-0-1 against the FireAntz this season, and they are now 7-5-1 all-time against Fayetteville.

Tayler Thompson is Fayetteville's leading scorer with 19 points, including 15 assists. Right behind him is Jake Hauswirth with 16 points, including six points in six games since being acquired a few weeks ago. Goaltender Sean Bonar is 6-7-0 with a 2.49 goals against average (GAA) and a .909 save percentage (SV%).

The Macon Mayhem return home on Saturday, January 7th at 7:35 PM against the Pensacola Ice Flyers, with the arena will be offering $2 Miller Lite drafts on that night.
