BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT BATTLE WINGS (2-6) AT ALBANY CONQUEST (2-6)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - PEPSI ARENA (13,901) 7:30 P.M. ET
Off of a bye week the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings travel north to face the Albany Conquest. While the Battle Wings have a record below .500 they have talent up and down their roster. Their two wins have come over two of the better teams in the National Conference. In Week 5 the Battle Wings went on the road to defeat the Rio Grande Valley Dorados 77-69. TIM HICKS threw for eight touchdowns in this game and BO SMITH scored six touchdowns. The Battle Wings are the only team to defeat Florida, beating them 28-22 in Week 7. Florida's 22 points was their lowest output this season and held Florida scoreless in their final three possessions in the fourth quarter to hold on to the game. The Battle Wings will need this defense to show up against the Conquest who have been rejuvenated since the hiring of PETE COSTANZA. Costanza was Albany's coach in 2003 when they went 13-3 and won their division. Last week they played a 5-3 Louisville team into overtime before falling 62-55. Against the Fire quarterback D BRYANT threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more to be named Offensive Player of the Game. On the season Bryant has thrown for 36 touchdowns while rushing for eight. After not playing in Albany's first three games, JEREMIAH POPE has come on as Bryant's main receiver of late. In just five games Pope has caught 37 passes for 420 yards and 11 touchdowns including two games of three touchdown receptions. OBY ARAH, has two sacks and while an af2 rookie, he is not new to professional football. Arah was a starter for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes in 2002-2003. Despite Albany being in their fourth season and Bossier-Shreveport in their fifth, this is the first time the two franchises have met.

MACON KNIGHTS (3-5) AT MANCHESTER WOLVES (7-1)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - VERIZON WIRELESS ARENA (9,650) 7:30 P.M. ET
Trying to stay ahead in the competitive East Division, the Manchester Wolves host the Macon Knights on Saturday night. Last week former AFL All-Arena defensive specialist DEREK STINGLEY earned his first win as a head coach when the Knights defeated the Twisters 67-45. Now Stingley is looking for his first road win. The game will feature two of af2's better secondaries. Rookie WILLIAM HAITH leads all of af2 in tackles with 65.0 (51UA-28AT). Third is Macon's LANEY HOSEA with 57.5 tackles (51UA-13AT). Manchester's defense doesn't stop with Haith though. His teammate, and one of af2's international players, ALLISTAIR SEBASTIEN is sixth in the league in tackles with 48.0 (42UA-12AT). Sebastien is tied for third in the league with six interceptions. Tied for sixth with five interceptions is MATT JACKSON. Last week Jackson had an interception and two kickoff returns for touchdowns. Hosea's four interceptions ranks eighth in the league. The Wolves defense goes well with the Wolves offense. Quarterback JAKE EATON has thrown only three interceptions the entire season and the Wolves have turned the ball over only six times during the season, best in the league. The Wolves are second in the league in turnover margin at +13. Another stat Manchester ranks second in is third down conversions. The Wolves have converted 28-of-49 (57.1%) third down opportunities this season and 6-of-8 fourth down conversions proving when the Wolves need a big play, they find a way. For Macon, when the offensive line can protect quarterback LIONEL HAYES, the Knights win. The three games Hayes has not been sacked are the three games Macon has won this season. These two teams played in Week 5 of this season in Macon, with Manchester coming out ahead 56-32.

BIRMINGHAM STEELDOGS (1-7) AT FLORIDA FIRECATS (7-1)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - GERMAIN ARENA (7,128) 7:30 P.M. ET
Two of af2's longest tenured teams face off as the defending champion Florida Firecats host the Birmingham Steeldogs. Last week Birmingham head coach BOBBY HUMPHREY earned his 50th career win, defeating Green Bay, 55-26. The Steeldogs defense stepped it up last week, holding the Blizzard scoreless in the second half. On offense DETRONN HARRIS had a big game against the Blizzard, but he seems to explode every weekend. Against Green Bay he caught a receiving touchdown, scored a rushing touchdown and returned a kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown. On defense for the Steeldogs, GEORGE WILLIAMS leads the team in tackles for a loss with 2.5. ELDRICK HILL leads in interceptions (2) and passes broken up (10). As would be expected from a defending champion, the Florida Firecats are strong in all facets of the games. The last two weeks has seen the return of CAINON LAMB. From his performance the last two games it is clear Lamb made the right decision in ending his retirement and return to the Firecats. In just two contests Lamb has caught 18 passes for 212 yards and seven touchdowns. He even has a rushing touchdown to his name to bring his total points to 48, good for second on the team. MAGIC BENTON leads the team in scoring with 19 touchdowns. The Firecats defense is led by two veteran defensive specialists, KELLY SNELL and ROY STABLER. Snell's 58.5 tackles (48UA-21AT) rank second in the league.

MEMPHIS XPLORERS (7-1) AT ARKANSAS TWISTERS (1-7)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - ALLTEL ARENA (16,508) 8:00 P.M. ET
After a week off the Midwest Division leading Memphis Xplorers are back in action facing the Arkansas Twisters on Saturday night at Alltel Arena. The Xplorers are playing like an ArenaCup favorite. When Memphis wins, they win convincingly. In Memphis' seven victories, they have won by an average of 24.6 points. Their only loss came to the Quad City Steamwheelers 42-45 on a 45-yard field goal with no time remaining in the game. Memphis' two main receivers are KEVIN PRENTISS and TERRELL ADAMS. Adams, the second year player from Mississippi Valley State, has caught 33 passes for 520 yards and 10 touchdowns. Prentiss has grabbed 60 passes for 893 yards and 25 touchdowns. His 60 catches rank second in the league. At only 5-8 Prentiss doesn't beat anyone with his height; it is his quick first step and blazing speed that allows him to beat defenders. Not surprising Prentiss is one of the best at kickoff returns in the league. He is second in the league in average yards per return (24.9) and is tied for the league in kick return touchdowns with three. On the opposite sidelines from Prentiss will be the player ahead of him in average yards per return. ROBERT KILOW of Arkansas is averaging 26.2 yards per return and has taken two back for scores. While Kilow has caught the most passes on the Twisters, KEVIN WILLIAMS leads the team in scoring with 12 touchdowns. Memphis defeated Arkansas in a Week 3 game earlier this season 54-13.

SOUTH GEORGIA WILDCATS (2-6) AT AMARILLO DUSTERS (5-3)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - AMARILLO CIVIC CENTER (4,870) 8:00 P.M. ET
The Amarillo Dusters host a visitor from the Peach State when the South Georgia Wildcats visit the Lone Star State. The expansion Dusters are coming off a 63-69 setback at Florida last week. Now two games back of Memphis the Dusters don't want to fall any farther behind the Xplorers. The Wildcats are coming off a close 37-39 loss to Rio Grande Valley. Their defense held the Dorados scoreless the entire first half and had the game on kicker WES VIRGILIO's foot with six seconds left. But his 47-yard field goal was no good. The Wildcats' go-to receiver is CHRIS MCKINNEY. He has grabbed 39 passes for 411 yards and 12 touchdowns. In only one game this season has McKinney failed to find the endzone. McKinney has to be considered as one of the league's best Ironmen. He also leads the Wildcats' defense in tackles with 27.0 (20UA-14AT). Amarillo has the best offense in all of af2. They average 58.4 points per game and also lead the league in yards per game at 310.6. The Dusters' offense is powered by versatile quarterback JULIAN REESE. Reese leads the league in rushing touchdowns with 16 and leads the league in pass yards per game with 276.5. Dusters' receiver CHAVIS MCCOLLISTER is fourth in the league in receptions (59) and receiving touchdowns (19). But his 921 receiving yards is best in the league. His numbers are even more impressive considering he has only played in six games. JIMMY GASTON leads the Dusters' defense in tackles with 43.0 (35UA-16AT), passes broken up (10) and is second in interceptions (2). He made the big defensive play two weeks ago against Central Valley on a fourth down play in overtime to win the game for the Dusters.

RIO GRANDE VALLEY DORADOS (5-3) AT OKLAHOMA CITY YARD DAWGZ (4-4)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - FOR CENTER (17,884) 8:30 P.M. ET
In a battle of two expansion teams from last season the Rio Grande Valley Dorados head to the Sooner State to face the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. Both teams are playing excellent football. The Yard Dawgz are on a two game wining streak and sit at .500 in arguably the toughest division in af2, the Midwest Division. Last week they went on the road and won at Quad City 56-49 one of the toughest places to play in the league. It was a back and forth contest with an AL HUNT 35-yard touchdown reception and a late defensive stand being the difference. The Yard Dawgz are a balanced team, ranking seventh in the league in both scoring defense, giving up 45.6 points per game, and scoring offense, scoring 48.6 points per game. They don't give up much on the ground, allowing an average of 9.0 rushing yards per game and a total of 72 yards on the season. Against Bossier-Shreveport two weeks ago the 'Dawgz scored three defensive touchdowns, all in the second half, and allowed only 17 total points. At four games, the Dorados currently have the second longest winning streak in af2. The star in this streak has been NORMAN MASON. In just two games with the Dorados he has won the ADT Defensive Player of the Week Award in both weeks. He has intercepted five passes, registered 14 solo tackles, one tackle for a loss and forced and recovered a fumble. His interception in the endzone clinched Pioneers game two weeks ago. Mason's play has the Dorados tied for second place in the West Division and right in the thick of the division race. If he manages to earn another Defensive Player of the Week honor he will become only the second player in af2 history to be honored three straight weeks with a weekly award. The Dorados play the Yard Dawgz again in Week 17.

LOUISVILLE FIRE (5-3) AT QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS (3-5)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - THE MARK OF THE QUAD CITIES (9,437) 8:30 P.M. ET
The Louisville Fire return to The Mark of the Quad Cities to play the Quad City Steamwheelers for the first time since their playoff victory last August. It was a wild game with the Fire winning on a play known as "The Miracle at the Mark." With four seconds left DANNY KIGHT lined up for a 53-yard field goal to win the game for the Fire. The kick had the distance but hit the left upright. JEFF HEWITT couldn't control the bounce off the iron and the ball bounced away. The Fire's DERRICK SHEPPARD came rumbling down the field to pick up the ball and DEMETRIUS FORNEY delivered the key block to allow Sheppard to run into the endzone to win the game for the Fire and stun the Quad City fans. Looking to lead the fire to a similar result this week is quarterback MATT SAUK. After getting sacked three times in the Fire's season opener at Rio Grande Valley, Sauk has been sacked only once since. One of Sauk's main targets is CESARE MANNING. Manning has caught 35 passes for 429 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Fire rushing game got a boost last week when Demetrius Forney rushed for five touchdowns. It will be up to him to pick up the touchdowns near the goaline that TONY STALLINGS used to get. Stallings, who also leads the team in interceptions, was recently signed by the CFL. The Fire will miss Stallings on defense considering the Steamwheelers have three extremely dangerous receivers. TRAVIS BURNS leads this group with 53 catches for 560 yards and 11 touchdowns. JACK WALKER JR leads the team in touchdown receptions with 12. Then last season's Ironman of the Year TIM DODGE rounds out this group with 49 receptions for 645 yards and five touchdowns. Louisville and Quad City meet one more time this season, Week 18 in Louisville.

BAKERSFIELD BLITZ (3-5) AT SAN DIEGO RIPTIDE (2-6)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - ipayOne Center (12,920) 10:00 P.M. ET
The San Diego Riptide host the Bakersfield Blitz Saturday night in a West Division showdown. The Blitz are led by rookie quarterback JASON THOMAS. Thomas has shown ability both passing and running the ball. He leads the team with 17 passing touchdowns and seven rushing scores. His main receiver is RENNA REYNOLDS. Reynolds leads the team in receptions and receiving yards. Last week he caught three touchdowns to lead the Blitz. Reynolds' eight receiving touchdowns ties him with veteran ERIC MAHANKE for the team lead. The heart of the Blitz team is its defense. The Blitz give up only 36.8 points per game, third best in the league, and 219.6 yards per game, second best in the league. ALEX WALLACE is tied for second in the league with 20 passes broken up. His seven interceptions is tied for first in the league. KHAREEM SHORTER leads the league in tackles for a loss with 6.0, second in the league is another Blitz player, KIKA KAULULAAU. Looking to beat the Blitz will be veteran Riptide quarterback KANE CLAUNCH. In just four games since returning to the Riptide, Claunch has thrown 19 touchdowns to just three interceptions. The last time these two clubs played the Blitz defense stepped up, limiting the Riptide to only 14 points and no Claunch touchdown passes. But the Riptide stayed close late in the game and had chances to go ahead. NIAN TAYLOR has 57 touchdown receptions on the season for the Riptide. NAKOA MCELRATH has caught six touchdowns for San Diego. These two clubs will meet once more this season, Week 17 in San Diego.

TULSA TALONS (6-2) AT CENTRAL VALLEY COYOTES (5-3)
SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2005 - SELLAND ARENA (8,911) 10:30 P.M. ET
The Central Valley Coyotes rank third in the league in points per game, averaging 55.5 points a contest. Right behind them in fourth is the Tulsa Talons who average 54.9 points per game. But the Talons don't mind being one back of the Coyotes in scoring average, because they are one game ahead of the Coyotes in the West Division. The Coyotes are led by the strong arm of JUSTON WOOD. The reigning Offensive Player of the Week threw for eight touchdowns and ran for two more in the Coyotes 93-70 win over the San Diego last week. Wood also ran for a season high 73 yards, the eight best single game rushing performance in league history. His 137 total rushing yards, 315 total offensive plays this season, 2,174 total passing yards and 271.8 passing yards per game all rank second in the league. But, his 44 touchdown passes is tops in the league. The offensive star of the Talons is DONOVAN MORGAN. The rookie offensive specialist ranks second in the league in receptions (60) and receiving yards (873). He is first in the league in receiving touchdowns with 30. Morgan has caught at least two touchdowns in every game. He is averaging 3.75 touchdowns per game and is on pace to catch 60 touchdowns. The current record for touchdown receptions in a season is 45. Juston Wood's main target for Central Valley is GEORGE WILLIAMS. After not playing in the season opener Williams has caught a touchdown pass in all seven games he has suited up. Williams better get open for Wood as Tulsa has the best defensive line in af2. Their 19 sacks is tops in the league. It isn't just one player doing all the damage for the Talons. Nine different Talons have at registered at least one sack. CHRIS MCIVER leads this group with 4.5 sacks, next is AHMAD WILLIS with 3.0. The Coyotes beat Tulsa earlier this season in Tulsa, only their fifth regular season home loss in franchise history.
