Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (June 3, 2005) â The Manchester Wolves are back home this week and hope to take down the Macon Knights this Saturday night (June 4) in an American Conference showdown at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The No.2-ranked Wolves (7-1) enter tomorrow night's contest alone in first place in the East Division on the strength of a seven-game winning streak.
Scouting the opposition, the Knights are currently in second place in the American Conference, South Division with a 3-5 record. After an unfavorable string of four straight losses, Macon turned things around last week with a solid 67-45 home victory over the Arkansas Twisters. The Knights are led by new head coach Derek Stingley, who is 1-1 since taking the reins on May 13 after Mike Hold's dismissal. Macon is paced on offense by the tandem of QB Lionel Hayes and WR/DB Chris Johnson. Hayes has thrown for 1,944 yards and 33 touchdowns (10 interceptions), while Johnson leads the squad with 55 catches for 754 yards and 13 touchdowns. Another player to watch for Macon is WR/DB Matt Jackson, who has three kick returns for scores to go along with his team-high five interceptions. The Wolves defeated the Knights earlier in the year, 56-31, on April 29 at Macon. The all-time series is tied at 1-1.
The Wolves are led on offense by their heady, steady QB Jake Eaton. The efficient Eaton currently leads the league in completion percentage (1st â 72.3) and passer rating (1st â 129.6), while also ranking among the af2's best in passing touchdowns (T-4th â 41) and passing yards (6th â 1,982). His favorite target is WR/LB J.J. McKelvey. McKelvey, a big, physical receiver, is currently the league leader in receptions with 71. The former Clemson standout also ranks among the af2's elite in scoring with 128 points on 21 touchdowns and one 2-pt conversion. As a group, the Wolves average nearly 48 points per game ( 47.9). On defense, Manchester is just as tough. The Wolves boast two top-flight defensive specialists in William "Roc" Haith and Allistair Sebastien. Haith leads the league in tackles with 65.0 and is among the top-5 in passes defended with 17. Sebastien ranks among the af2 leaders in tackles (6th â 48.0) and interceptions (T-3rd â 6).
Tomorrow night's show begins at 6 p.m. with a special pre-game concert courtesy of 168 Magazine, featuring popular local music act, Waltham. The action inside the arena kicks off at 7:30 p.m. This Saturday night is also "Ladies Night," where all female fans through the doors will receive a FREE ticket voucher good for any remaining 2005 Wolves home game, courtesy of 95.7 WZID.
