Waza Flo News Release
A stunning fourth quarter goal by Costea "the Count" Decu gave the Detroit Waza an 8-7 victory over the Ohio Vortex tonight at the Taylor Sportsplex in front of a crowd of 397.
"It wasn't pretty, but we pulled it out," said Waza co-coach Dominic Scicluna after the game. "It was the same as the last game, where we started strong in the first half, but allowed the other team to get back into the game. Fortunately, in the fourth quarter, we found that reserve of energy and courage and pulled it out."
The Waza (3-2) scoring was led by Miki Djerisilo, who had a hat trick, and Aaron Byrd, Tino Scicluna, Nelson Diaz, Scotty Wright, and Costea Decu, who had one each.
For the Vortex (1-3), Slavisa Ubiparipovic had a masterful performance, scoring Ohio's first five goals. Jared Dombrowski and Milko Cecez each scored one in the losing effort.
Vito Lonigro was solid between the pipes for the Waza, facing 39 shots and making 15 saves. Lonigro has been in goal for all three of the Waza wins this season.
The Waza will return to the field next Saturday night, when they face the new Illinois Piasa (Pie-a-saw) at 6:30PM. Tickets will be available on gamenight at the Sportsplex.
