Last Week's Outings:

Wave 15, KiXX 11 (01/06/07)

Philadelphia, PA (January 6, 2007) - The Milwaukee Wave's Brazilian Connection provided a stirring conclusion Saturday at the Wachovia Spectrum, as the Wave notched a 15-11 victory over the first-place Philadelphia KiXX.

After the Wave lost all of an 8-0 lead, Marcio Leite and then Marcelo Santos scored in the last 10 minutes for a 12-8 advantage. Brett Wiesner added his first 3-pointer against the sixth attacker for some insurance. Milwaukee (5-6) broke a two-game losing streak and won for the first time this year over the KiXX (7-4).

The MISL's No. 1 offense stung the league's No. 1 defense early, as the Wave netted goals from Troy Dusosky, Guiliano Oliviero, Johnny Torres and Chad Dombrowski, the last with 11:30 remaining in the second quarter.

Dusosky and Oliviero gave the Wave a boost with goals just 9 seconds apart. Dusosky notched his 10th of the year on a restart, with an assist from his twin, Todd. Then on the ensuing kickoff, Oliviero swiped a pass and roared in on keeper Peter Pappas, scoring his 10th of the year at 5:59.

Torres concluded the first-quarter assault at 14:04, after rookie Marcio Leite had carried the ball out of the back against pressure. About four minutes later, the lead was 8-0 when Leite beat his sliding defender at midfield and roared in on Pappas. He laid the ball off for Dombrowski, who scored his third goal of the season.

With a series of superb saves, Nick Vorberg protected the shutout until just 8.8 seconds remained in the half, when Andy Guastaferro snuck one in.

That play, however, gave the KiXX the momentum, as they eventually tied the game 8-all on the second goal of the game by rookie Tony Donatelli with 12:31 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Leite, the rookie from Sergipe, Brazil gave the Wave the lead for good with 9:39 remaining when he feinted right to gain space at the top of the arc, dribbled in and beat Pappas. About five minutes later, Greg Howes found Santos - a rookie hailing from Recife - cutting down the center of the penalty area and fed him perfectly for a 12-8 advantage.

Wave 18, Cougars 6 (01/07/07)

Milwaukee, WI (Jan. 7, 2007) - The Milwaukee Wave's Marcio Leite continued his on-field campaign for MISL Rookie of the Year Sunday, as he participated in three of the Wave's first four goals in an 18-6 victory over the California Cougars on Sunday at the U.S. Cellular Arena.

With the victory, the Wave (6-6) completed a weekend sweep and moved into a tie for third place with the

Detroit Ignition. Todd Dusosky vaulted into third place in the MISL Puma Points standings with 38, scoring a hat trick and assisting on a fourth goal; he is just behind teammate Greg Howes, who had one assist to total 37 points.

Similar to Saturday night in Philadelphia, the Wave's top-ranked offense was aggressive from the opening kickoff, scoring the game's first six points.

Less than 90 seconds into the game, Marcelo Santos' shot of a loose ball was deflected to the feet of Leite, who rocketed a left-footed shot into the top of the goal from the left side of the penalty area.

Leite engineered the second goal, after another 90 seconds. The Cougars were called for a foul near the yellow line in front, and the 22-year-old Brazilian alertly initiated a quick restart. A wide-open Johnny Torres collected his pass on the left boards and dished immediately to an unmarked Todd Dusosky, whose one-touch effort made the score 4-0.

Howes' rocket pass off the right end boards found Dusosky running through the penalty area, and the veteran forward knocked it home for his 11th goal of the season and a 6-0 lead with 6:35 still to go in the first quarter.

California (5-8), ranked last in the league in defense, pulled within two points after Vicente Figueroa and Brian Farber scored 23 seconds part, but the Wave regained in the second period. Leite executed a nifty give-and-go with Todd Dusosky at 4:23, then Troy Dusosky found Torres on another quick restart just 2:11 before the half.

Dusosky completed his hat trick with 6:52 remaining in the third quarter on a feed from defender Oral Bullen, his first assist as a member of the Wave.
