Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

MILWAUKEE, WI - The Syracuse Silver Knights lost to Milwaukee 25-10 on Sunday night, dropping the Silver Knights to a 6-12 record. The loss puts them two games behind Rochester for second place in the Eastern Division.

Three players scored for Syracuse. JD Gruenewald and Nelson Santana led the team offensively, recording two goals each, while Slavisa Ubiparipovic scored one goal. Goalkeeper Bryan O'Quinn was instrumental in only his second start, saving 17 shots and keeping the score close.

Both sides attacked with great momentum with seven goals in the first quarter. Leading scorer Greg Howes (46 points) opened the scoring just 1:25 into the game, followed by Nicolas Perera's goal 35 seconds soon after. Syracuse stormed back to tie the game up at four behind a re-start from Ubiparipovic and a great piece of individual skill from Santana. Milwaukee netted two more goals of their own, but was capped off by JD Gruenewald's fast-break goal, making it 9-6 going into the second quarter.

The Wave scored three consecutive goals early in the second quarter. Santana scored his second goal of the game, heading into halftime trailing 15-8.

After a frenetic first half, both teams tightened up the screws defensively. Ian Bennett had the only goal of the quarter as the Wave extended their lead 17-8. Bennett completed a hat trick in the final quarter, tying with Ubiparipovic for the league's tenth-leading scorer (44 points). Milwaukee added two goals of their own, making it 23-8. Syracuse and Milwaukee traded goals near the end of the fourth, with Gruenewald getting his second of the game.

The Silver Knights return home to the War Memorial at Oncenter on Thursday, February 9, to take on the Norfolk Sharx. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. For more information about the Silver Knights visit www.syracusesilverknights.com.
