Rochester Lancers News Release

Norfolk, VA - The Rochester Lancers (8-10) took care of business against the Norfolk SharX (3-15) in a 17-8 win. The win extends the Lancers lead over the Syracuse Silver Knights for second place in the MISL's Eastern Division. Doug Miller scored 2 2-point goals and added an assist to lead the Lancers in scoring. Mauricio Salles also tallied a pair of 2-point goals, while Andrew Hoxie scored a 2-point goal and had a pair of assists. Defender Elliot Fauske scored his first goal of the season and it was a 3-point goal to boot. Patrick Hannigan was once again big in goal for the Lancers making 14 saves in earning the win in goal.

The SharX would open the scoring a little over three minutes into the game when Gary Brooks was able to finish from inside the Lancers' penalty area. The Lancers would pull even when Carlos "Chile" Farias found himself with plenty of time and space one v one with Norfolk goalkeeper Jamie Lieberman and he was able to deftly place it into the goal. A couple of minutes later, the Lancers would take their first lead of the evening when Andrew Hoxie was able to hold the ball up and find a runner in Lubo who finished from just inside the 3-point arc to give the Lancers a 4-2 lead as the first fifteen minutes came to an end.

Doug Miller would extend the Lancers lead in the second quarter after he drew a blue card penalty shoot-out attempt and he converted it as he beat Lieberman high into the upper ninety. The SharX would pull back to within a goal as Brian Hinkey would find Matt Clare on the counter-attack and Clare would finish with his left foot. Just under two minutes later, Lubo would find Mauricio Salles who would have all sorts of time to line up a left footed finish from a step inside the 3-point arc to extend the Lancers lead. A little over ten minutes into the quarter, Miller would again take advantage of a Norfolk blue card penalty. With Gary Brooks off for tripping, Miller would find a loose ball in the SharX penalty area and convert for his second goal of the game which gave the Lancers a 10-4 halftime lead.

A little over three minutes into the second half, Norfolk would get a powerplay goal of their own as Miguel Ferrer would play a ball in and Matthew Delicate would put it away from in close. With under four minutes left in the quarter, Brayton Knapp would play the ball off the end boards and Salles would finish for his second goal of the game. A minute later, Hoxie would lay the ball off to Elliot Fauske who would rip a 3-point goal to give the Lancers a 15-6 lead heading into the final quarter.

Norfolk opened the scoring in the final quarter on a restart as Clare touched it to Ferrer who was able to sneak one past the wall and into the goal. With under two minutes left in the game, Miller would find Hoxie in the SharX penalty area and Hoxie's shot would sneak under the crossbar for his first of the game to make the final score 17-8 for the Lancers.
