THE SKINNY:
For the second time this year, and second time in three weeks, Milwaukee faces an opponent on a four-game losing streak. The Wave made it a five-game losing streak for its opponent (Rockford) last time and looks to do the same this week. Monterrey's four-game slide comes on the heels of a league high, six-game winning streak. This reversal of fortunes has knocked La Raza from first place, all the way down to third, 2.5 games behind Milwaukee, and in danger of missing the playoffs. The Wave has already clinched a playoff berth, but a win against Monterrey would put Milwaukee one step closer toward hosting the championship game.
La Raza's struggles have not been due to a lack of offense. Monterrey is the league's second-best offensive team, averaging 12.3 points per game, and have scored the most points in the MISL, 222. During the losing streak, Monterrey still averages 12.2 points per game. What has killed La Raza are their defensive struggles. Monterrey is allowing 15.5 points a game in its past four games, four points higher than its season. The Wave has held steady during its win streak, winning high- and low-scoring games in this time. A win here will eliminate Monterrey from contention of hosting the championship game.
