Milwaukee Wave United News Release

(Milwaukee, WI) Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team announced today that it has signed three local players to contracts for the 2003 season. The group includes forward Nick Walls (Wauwatosa), defender Chad Dombrowski (West Allis), and defender Steve Lawrence (Brookfield).

The 22-year old Walls returns to the Milwaukee area after an outstanding career at St. Louis University. He totaled 18 goals and 17 assists (53 points) for his four year career with the nationally ranked Billikens, including eight goals and five assists (21 points) in 2002. The 5-11, 172 lb. Wauwatosa native, who was the 1998 Wisconsin Prep Player of the Year during his senior campaign at Wauwatosa East High School, provides added depth at the forward position.

Dombrowski is another in a long line of brothers who have distinguished themselves on the soccer pitch. The 23-year old West Allis native was one of three family members (including brothers Tighe and Neil) who played on the 2002 UW-Milwaukee squad which won a school record 19 games and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division I Tournament. The 6-1, 175 lb. Dombrowski, whose older brother Scott has also played professionally, is a versatile player who is initially expected to help bolster Wave United's back line.

Lawrence is another young defender (22) who will vie for playing time in the back. The Brookfield native, who played for Wave United Assistant Coach Bob Spielmann at Milwaukee Marquette High School, enjoyed a stellar four-year career at Marquette University where was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year his senior season (2002). Despite his primary role as a defensive stopper, the 5-10, 150 lb. Lawrence also contributed three assists during his career for the Golden Eagles.

"Nick, Chad, and Steve are three more young local players we're looking forward to having this season," said Wave United Coach Art Kramer. "We feel that each has the potential to develop at the professional level and contribute to our organization."

Wave United opens its first A-League season on Friday, May 16, 7:05 PM when it hosts the Minnesota Thunder at Uihlein Soccer Park. Art Kramer's team will also host the defending MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy in an exhibition match on Sunday, May 18, 4:05 PM at Uihlein.
