July 20, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Milwaukee Wave United News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Coming off another pair of home wins this past week, Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team will look to extend its team record seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) when it takes on the Edmonton Aviators this upcoming Thursday, July 22, 8:05 PM CDT at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, AB. It's the second of four meetings between the clubs this season, and a rematch of this past Saturday's (7/17) game at Uihlein Soccer Park where Wave United defeated the Aviators 1-0 on a goal by Todd Dusosky in the 51st minute. The result improved Milwaukee's record to 6-2-2 home / 1-5-0 road / 7-7-2 (23 points) overall while the Aviators, who host the Portland Timbers tonight, dropped to 1-3-2 home / 1-5-4 road / 2-8-6 overall (12 points). Wave United is now just one point behind the fourth place Seattle Sounders (7-9-3, 24 points) in the Western Conference standings, with the top four teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences assured of playoff births for the 2004 A-League post-season beginning in September.
Thursday match also kicks-off a three-game road trip for Wave United, with Art Kramer's team slated to visit Vancouver on Friday (July 23, 9:05 PM CDT) and Seattle on Sunday (July 25, 7:05 PM CDT) to conclude the excursion. Wave United will be clashing with the Whitecaps for the second time this season prior to meeting the Sounders for the fourth and final time of the campaign.
Milwaukee's next home game is Saturday night, July 31, 7:35 PM when it entertains the Portland Timbers at Uihlein Soccer Park. Among the festivities will be post-game fireworks sponsored by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and FM 106.

Wave United Notes:
*The originally scheduled May 14 season opener v. Edmonton which was postponed due to wet grounds at Uihlein Soccer Park has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 19, 7:35 PM at Uihlein. Fans with tickets for the May 14 game may exchange them for that game, or any other 2004 Wave United regular season contest. Call the Wave Office at 414-224-WAVE (9283) for more information.
The three goals scored by Wave United in a 3-2 win v. Cal on 7/14 was a season high for Milwaukee. Last season, Wave United scored three or more goals in 11 outings, going 10-1-0 in those contests.
*Wave United's 2-1 win v. Por on 6/23 was Milwaukee's first this season when allowing the initial score. Wave United is now 1-4-1 when the opponent scores first after going 1-8-0 in similar circumstances last season.
*The five goals surrendered by Milwaukee in the 5-2 loss @ VB on 6/18 were the most yielded by a Wave United team, and the most given up by a Milwaukee A-League squad since the Rampage dropped a 5-2 decision at Portland on 8/30/01.
*Wave United has trailed just once at halftime (1-0 v. Sea on 6/13) so far this season. However, Milwaukee has been outscored 16-8 after halftime and has blown three-of-its five halftime advantages.
*Jim Larkin's shutout on 7/17 v. Edm was his fourth this season, the 27th of his A-League career, and the 11th in his two years with Wave United.
*Johnny Torres' goal on 7/9 v. VB was his team-leading sixth this season, and the 25th of his three-year A-League career.
*Greg Howes' goal (GWG) on 7/9 v. VB was his fourth this season, and the 44th of his five-year A-League career.
*Todd Dusosky registered Milwaukee's first multi-goal game this season when he scored two (including the GWG) on 7/14 v. Cal. Dusosky has now tallied 23 goals in his A-League career.
*Digital Takawira's assist on 7/9 v. VB was his first point of the season, and the 115th (44 goals + 27 assists) of his five-year A-League-career. Takawira is Milwaukee's all-time regular season A-League scoring leader.
*The two shutouts suffered by Wave United 5/21 and 5/22 were the first back-to-back shutouts in team history. Wave United was shutout six times in 2003, three of which occurred at Uihlein Soccer Park.
*The scoreless draw on 5/22 v. Min was also the first tie in Wave United history. Milwaukee did not have any ties when it posted an A-League best 18-10-0 (54 pts.) record in 2003. Coach Art Kramer's team played just three minutes of overtime during the regular season, that coming in a 1-0 (OT) win at El Paso on 6/22/03.
*In stark contrast to last season, Wave United has now played six overtime matches this season. Milwaukee has played 92 combined overtime minutes and is 2-2-2 in such contests.
*Minnesota's 1-0 aggregate goal victory over Wave United on 5/21 and 5/22 denied Milwaukee a chance to participate in the 2004 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament. It's the first time since the 2000 season that a Milwaukee A-League club has not qualified for the U.S. Open Cup.
*Wave United's season-opening five-game winless streak tied the longest winless streak in Milwaukee A-League history. The '97 Rampage squad also went winless in five straight (all losses) from 5/25/97 thru 6/20/97.
