
International soccer stars in Atlanta

Twelve national team stars will take to the field on Tuesday, July 20th in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup at DeKalb Memorial Stadium when the Atlanta Silverbacks take on the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
The Wizards have six players who have seen action with the U.S. National Team. Georgia's own Stone-Mountain native Josh Wolff has scored seven times for the U.S. in his 25 appearances. Wolff is currently second on the Kansas City team in scoring with 15 points.
In goal for Kansas is Tony Meola, Meola has appeared for the U.S. National Team on 99 occasions and is tied with Kasey Keller for the most wins in U.S. history wth 37. Meola has started in every game for the Wizards this season, earning a record of 9-4-4.
Nick Garcia is another Wizard in the National Team pool. He's played in 6 games for the U.S. since 2003. Other Wizards who have represented the U.S. include Preki, Chris Klein and Kerry Zavagnin.
The Wizards have two more international stars, Igor Simutenkov has represented Russia 20 times and Vuk Rasovic has played 10 times for Serbia and Montenegro.
Atlanta also has a number of national team players. The Silverbacks will likely start former 10-year member of the Honduran National Team Alex Pineda-Chacon.
Chacon was named MLS MVP in 2001 and he is joined on the Atlanta squad by several teammates that have represented their national teams: Mac Cozier (U.S.), Anthony Tokpah (Liberia) and Velko Iotov (Bulgaria). Iotov was a member of the 1994 Bulgarian World Cup team that reached the semi-finals.
Additionally, John Ball is currently representing the U.S. National Futsal Team and Leslie Fitzpatrick is in the national team pool for Trinidad.
