Milwaukee Wave United News Release

(Portland, OR) Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team suffered its second straight heartbreaking loss in the Pacific Northwest Saturday night (5/29) as it fell to the Portland Timbers 3-2 in overtime before 4,067 fans at PGE Park in Portland, OR. Coupled with Friday night's last minute setback in Seattle (a 2-1 loss to the Sounders), Wave United's record is now 0-3-1 (1 point) for the 2004 campaign. The Timbers, who were led by rookie Alan Gordon's hat trick, improved to 5-0-0 (15 points).

Similar to the previous night in Seattle, Milwaukee jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a header by Todd Dusosky off an assist from Greg Howes. The goal stood up as the only first half tally as goalkeeper Jim Larkin stopped Portland's Byron Alvarez on a point-blank header in the 41st minute.

Wave United extended its lead in the 50the minute when Johnny Torres scored off a free kick from 30 yards out to give Milwaukee a 2-0 advantage. However, the Timbers responded with goals from Gordon in the 65th and 85th minutes, both scored on headers from Shawn Saunders and Jake Sagare, respectively. Gordon capped off his sensational night by hammering a low bouncing shot past Larkin from 15 yards away five minutes into the extra session.

Portland ‘keeper Josh Saunders, younger brother of Shawn, posted just one save in recording the victory while Larkin registered four in the loss. Milwaukee has now played three overtime games so far this season after having played just one during the entire 2003 campaign.
