Edmonton Aviators News Release
Edmonton, May 30, 2004- Today, the Edmonton Aviators played the Minnesota Thunder to a scoreless draw.
The game marked the first home date of the season for both Aviators squads. The match was very intense. Aviators midfielder Jamie Lopresti was given his second red card of the season during an altercation in the first half of the game. The home squad received sometimes great goaltending from keeper Jose Luis Campi as they were forced to play with only 10 players for the majority of the game.
"I thought we battled hard against a very good team tonight. The came at us hard, especially after Lopresti was ejected and we still managed to keep in the game", said Ross Ongaro- Head Coach for the Edmonton Aviators Soccer Club. "We look forward to playing again at home on Thursday", said Ongaro.
The weather conditions played havoc on both the players and fans. The rain drizzled periodically throughout both games, making the field conditions slick. The poor weather conditions also greatly affected the attendance which was lower than expected. However the Aviators fully expect to have a much bigger crowd on Thursday when the Aviators will again take the field for a doubleheader. The Men's A-League game will go first and start at 6:00 pm, with the Women W-League game following at 8:30 pm. Both Aviators teams will play the Seattle Sounders Men's and Women's teams respectively.
