Wave this week

Milwaukee Wave News Release

The Milwaukee Wave drew a No. 2 seed in the West and will play ... oh, never mind. It's not March Madness but the Wave are still tied for first, wrapping up a 4-0 homestand on Sunday. The Wave outscored their opponents 76-30 in the four games and now are on the road for 3 of their last 5 games.

The Wave practice at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the U.S. Cellular Arena, and again Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m. at Uihlein Soccer Park. Wednesday is our third School Day Game at 10:30 a.m. About 8,000 students and teachers are expected. As always, please call ahead to make sure times have not changed. Story possibilities for this week:

SCORING RACE UPDATE

1. Greg Howes, MIL: 102 points, 5 games left 2. Dino Delevski, MON: 92 points, 4 games left

The skinny: Delevski had actually caught Howes a couple of weeks ago, but then Howes racked up 25 points in the four-game homestead and took over again. He is in line for his fourth title in five years. Howes and Delevski go head-to-head in the season's final game for both teams, April 5.

"GULES" TAKES OVER He's a quiet, steady veteran without flashy moves or blinding speed. Yet, since returning from a hamstring injury in late January, Giuliano Oliviero has been fantastic. He's got 10 goals in eight games, with a hat trick on Sunday and three other two-goal games. Oliviero, 34, is in his second stint with the Wave. He was here in 1995-96 and 1996-97 and then returned in 2003-04. Earlier this year he went over the 900-point mark for his career.

SETTING UP FOR A SHOWDOWN Detroit and Milwaukee lead the MISL by 2 games over Baltimore. The two rivals play twice in the final week of the season - March 30 in Milwaukee and April 4 in Detroit - to settle the matter of the regular season title and the two playoff byes. Baltimore still has a chance but Detroit and Milwaukee control matters for themselves.

There is a lot going on with the NCAA tournament but there are good stories here with the Wave before that begins. Come see us Tuesday or Wednesday - the School Day Game would especially be a great time to send a camera for both news and sports purposes! Thanks.
