Milwaukee Wave News Release

(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave continues preparations for the upcoming 2004-05 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) regular season with preseason workouts this week at U.S. Cellular Arena. Coach Keith Tozer's squad will work out at "The Cell" today (10/11) thru Friday beginning at 10 AM each day. The week culminates with a closed exhibition game against the Chicago Storm this Saturday, October 16, 11 AM at the Arena.

The Wave is coming off a pair of exhibition wins over Kansas City (14-13) and Cleveland (6-2) this past Saturday (10/9) at the Darien Sportsplex in Darien, IL. Milwaukee outlasted the Comets in the opener on the strength of four goals by Angel Rivillo and three by Todd Dusosky, the latter scoring the tiebreaking and eventual game-winning goals midway through the fourth period. Former Wave United player Jamar Beasley tallied three for the Comets, including a goal with just over two minutes remaining that accounted for the final score. Goalkeeper Dominick Jakubek, who replaced started Dan Green after three quarters, picked up the win for Milwaukee despite giving up five goals in the final period.

In contrast to the shootout against the Comets, Milwaukee relied on a strong defensive effort to beat Cleveland in the second contest. Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg anchored the defense with 10 saves during three periods of work while Kevin Burk scored twice to spark the attack. Burk opened the scoring at 11:09 of the first quarter and closed it out at 9:19 of the fourth. Nino Marcantonio, Todd Dusosky, Rivillo, and Greg Howes also scored for the Wave, with Johnny Torres adding two assists.

"It was nice to win both games but we've got a lot of work to do," said Tozer.

The Wave opens the regular season on Saturday, October 23, 7 PM against the first-year Storm at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL. Fans interested in attending the game can contact the Storm Office at 312-226-4625 or visit www.chicagostorm.net for more information.
