Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE (June 15, 2010) - The MISL's Milwaukee Wave and the W-League's Chicago Red Eleven are teaming up for the first co-ed professional indoor exhibition match on Wednesday, July 14 in the second annual Summer Soccer Showcase.

Players from the Wave and Red Eleven will be mixed on two competing teams at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. and tickets are only $8. Call the Wave office at 414-224-9283 to order.

"This is a unique concept that will showcase incredibly talented players in a fun environment. It should be a great event for the players and fans," said Peter Wilt, president and CEO of the Wave.

The Red Eleven are the W-League affiliate of the Chicago Red Stars of Women's Pro Soccer. The team has former pros from the WPS, the WUSA and pro leagues in Sweden, plus members of the Irish and Haitian national teams. They are coached by David Nikolic, who is known well in Wisconsin soccer circles. He is associate head coach for the UW-Milwaukee women and also coaches in the Wisconsin ODP program.

"The Wave, Peter Wilt and Keith Tozer have had tremendously positive impact on the game of soccer in the Milwaukee area and the Chicago Red Eleven players are excited to join them for this historic match," Nikolic said. "Being one of the original 'ball boys' for the Wave back in 1985, I have great memories of the early days of the Wave and to be back in that building on the bench again will be fantastic for me personally."

Ted Gradel, owner of the Red Eleven, said: "At the Chicago Red Eleven we strive to promote the women's game and provide opportunities for our talented female players. Our hope is that this exhibition game fosters similar ideas for future cooperation between men's and women's teams as we look to grow the game of soccer in the United States."

The Wave finished last season on an eight-game winning streak in the regular season, before dropping the MISL Championship Game 12-6 at home to Monterrey. The Summer Soccer Showcase will feature many of the players who contributed to that success, though the exact roster will be determined.

The Milwaukee Wave professional indoor soccer team is the longest-running professional soccer team in the country. The Wave completed their 26th season by winning the Major Indoor Soccer League regular season championship. Their summer camp program is the largest team-operated program in the country.
