Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE, WI (December 31, 2005) - The 2005-06 Milwaukee Wave squad has made their mark in the team's record book. With their 8-2 win over the California Cougars today, the Wave has started the season 8-0, beating the previous best of 7-0 (accomplished in 1998-99 and 2002-03). As has been the case many times this season, the Wave's balanced offense and team defense helped to secure the win.

For the seventh consecutive game, the Wave got on the board first, with Marcelo Fontana scoring off a Greg Howes pass 56 seconds into the contest. The defenses kept the offenses in check from that point until late in the second quarter when Greg Howes again found a teammate, this time it was Matt Schmidt, for a score.

After seeing just two goals scored in the first 30 minutes of the game, five goals were scored in the first 7:27 of the second half. Giuliano Oliviero scored 13 seconds into the half. Then Hewerton scored off a Chad Dombrowski assist 1:38 into the third quarter and Ricardinho followed with California's first goal of the game 16 seconds later. About 90 seconds later, a Michael King score gave the Wave a 5-1 lead and Todd Dusosky capped off the scoring frenzy with 7:33 left, making the score 6-1.

The Wave kept the heat on in the fourth quarter with Marcelo Fontana scoring his second goal of the game four minutes into the final quarter. Greg Howes capped off his generous game with an assist on Milwaukee's final goal of the game. Todd Dusosky scored the power play goal to make the score 8-1 and gave Howes his fourth assist of the contest; a Wave single game high for this season. Vicente Figueroa scored the final goal of the game for the Cougars off a Ronnie Ekelund pass with less than six minutes remaining. The defenses held from that point on for the final 8-2 score.

The Wave take on the Baltimore Blast at the U.S. Cellular Arena on Friday, January 6 at 7:05 p.m. The game features two of the top offenses in the MISL, and, based on the their first game (the Wave won 7-5), it will be a great matchup. The following night, the Wave heads to Baltimore for a game on the Blast's home turf. For more information on tickets, please call the Wave office at 414-224-WAVE (9283); groups of 10 or more can receive discounted rates. The games can be heard on Joy 1340 AM and www.MilwaukeeWave.com.
