Wave Host First Futsal Tournament and Futsal Referee Certification Course

(Milwaukee, WI) - The Milwaukee Wave will host the a Futsal referee certification course on Friday evening with the only American FIFA Futsal referee instructor, Ed Marco, flying in to teach the course. Beginning Saturday the Wave will host the first of a series of Youth Futsal tournaments for participants ages U8-U14. The U8 boys and girls will take to the U.S. Cellular field for their tournament prior to the Wave vs Blast game.
Futsal is played with a heavier, low bounce ball that helps to develop better skills and techniques for soccer players. Indoor and outdoor players from around the globe play Futsal to refine and maintain their touch and foot skills.
Milwaukee Wave head coach Keith Tozer, has been the head coach of the U.S. Futsal National Team for 16 years and Wave Goalkeeper coach, Mark Litton, is the current U.S. Futsal National Team goal keeper coach. Many current Wave players have played on the U.S. Futsal National Team including Joe Hammes, Nick Vorberg and Nick Perera. Giuliano Oliviero and Ian Bennett have played on the Canadian Futsal National Team and Marcio Leite, Jonatan Santos, Hewerton and Luan Oliveira have played futsal professionally in Brazil.
Ed Marco and the state referees will be refereeing the U-8 Wave Youth Futsal tournament on Saturday. In addition, Shane Campbell and Jason Krnac, the only two U.S. representatives as FIFA and CONCACAF Futsal referees will also be in attendance at the tournament as will be refereeing the Wave vs. Blast game.
The games will be two 10-minute halves and each team is guaranteed to play three games. The champion and runner up teams will be honored at halftime of the Wave game that evening.
