Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (March 7, 2010) - Leading nearly the entire game but never able to pull away, the Milwaukee Wave edged a game Rockford squad on Sunday 13-11 to extend their lead in the Major Indoor Soccer League to a full game over Baltimore.
The Wave (11-6) had leads of four, six and four points, but had to hold off a sixth-attacker charge by the Rampage (6-11). Rockford, who made wholesale roster changes in the week leading up to the game, scored a shorthanded goal by Geison Moura with 2:20 remaining. That brought the Rampage within two points and completely changed the complexion of the final two minutes.
But behind Marcel Feenstra, who saved 9 of 14 shots in improving to 5-2, was able to hold firm to get the win.
Tenzin Rampa and Ian Bennett staked the Wave to a 4-0 first-quarter lead before Chris Brisson's 3-pointer in the second period cut the margin to one point. Rampa's second goal - marking the first two-goal game of his career - made it 6-3, and then Troy Dusosky struck a key blow with 1:15 to go in the half. Josh Rife fed him for a 3-point blast on a power play for a 9-3 advantage.
Rockford then scored six consecutive points, including two goals within 40 seconds in the fourth quarter, to pull even.
Rife put the Wave on top for good exactly 59 seconds later, however, after former Detroit and Indiana University teammate Ryan Mack dug a ball out of the corner. It rolled to Rife just inside the 3-point arc, and he blasted it low for an 11-9 lead.
Mack then scored off a corner kick, set up by Kyt Selaidopoulos, and the Wave seemed in control with 7:56 to go before Moura made it interesting.
"We didn't play our best game, especially in the second half, but we got the win, which was the first thing on our minds," said Wave coach Keith Tozer.
Dusosky led the Wave with five points, contributing a pair of assists, as the Wave scored at least 13 points for the third consecutive game.
Brisson and Fred Degand each registered three points for Rockford, which lost its seventh consecutive game.
