NEWARK, N.J. (March 22, 2009) - Lucio Gonzaga's 3-pointer, redirected off a Milwaukee Wave player, ruined a stirring Wave comeback and concluded a 15-12 overtime victory for the New Jersey Ironmen at the Prudential Center on Sunday.

Gonzaga's strike, just 27 seconds into the extra period, dropped the Wave to 9-8 and out of a first-place tie with Detroit. The Ironmen (8-8) are just one game out of the lead. Detroit (9-7) is at

New Jersey led 6-0 and then 12-4 before Milwaukee's rally started with 1:25 to go in the third quarter, when Troy Dusosky hammered a 3-pointer to make it 12-7.

Nathan Sabich then really tightened up the game with 5:07 left with his third goal of the year. Less than one minute later, Shaun David drew a blue card and Dino Delevski came through with a power-play 3-pointer to knot the score with 3:27 on the clock . One more New Jersey penalty, this one on Adauto Neto, gave the Wave a chance to take a lead in regulation but they couldn't convert.

The winning score started with Neto, who held the ball in the far corner and rolled it to a streaking Gonzaga at the top of the 3-point arc. His shot hit a Wave defender in the back and changed direction, leaving keeper Nick Vorberg diving the wrong way.

Giuliano Oliviero and Delevski led the Wave with four points each.

The Wave concludes their home season at 2 p.m. Sunday against these same Ironmen. It's Fan Appreciation Day sponsors by 102.9 The Hog, and all fans will be invited on the field for 30 minutes following the game to get autographs and photos with their favorite players.
