ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers lost their third consecutive game as they lost to the Milwaukee Wave 7-3 in front of a season-high MISL crowd of 13,798. The loss drops the Steamers to 15-12 on the season and into third place in the MISL standings.
The Steamers scored the first goal of the game when Daryl Doran assisted on Shaun David's goal at 1:12 of the first quarter. Doran notched a powerplay goal at 7:31 of the first when he took a pass from Joe Reiniger at the point and beat Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. Milwaukee would respond when Giuliano Oliviero shot passed Steamers goalkeeper Brett Phillips at 9:10 of the first. Reiniger would put St. Louis on top by two goals when Doran fed him on a re-start later in the period. However, the Steamers would not score again in the game as the Wave came back with six unanswered goals. Milwaukee tied the game 3-3 at the end of the first quarter on goals by Greg Howes and Semir Mesanovic.
The Wave would take the lead 4-3 in the second quarter when Chris Morman scored on a pass from Oliviero. Howes would add his second goal of the game on the powerplay with Oliviero recording his second assist and third point of the game. Milwaukee score two more goals against the sixth attacker at 13:09 and 14:10 of the fourth quarter. With 1:16 remaining in the game, Lindsay Kennedy stepped on the field and made history by becoming the first female player to play in an MISL game.
St. Louis will play next Sunday afternoon at Cleveland to take on the Force at 2:05 p.m. The Steamers next home game will be on Thursday, March 3 at 11:05 a.m. when they play host to the Milwaukee Wave. The second episode of "Red Card" can be seen next Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. on KPLR-TV.
