MILWAUKEE (Feb. 21, 2010) - Joe Hammes' 3-point laser broke a 6-all tie in the third quarter, and the Milwaukee Wave recaptured first place alone in the MISL on Sunday with a 15-10 victory over the Philadelphia KiXX.

Milwaukee (9-6) is a half-game on top of Monterrey (9-7), after La Raza lost Friday to Baltimore and Saturday to the KiXX in Philadelphia.

"I really didn't think we played our best game tonight, but it's not always about your best game, it's about getting the 'W'" said Wave coach Keith Tozer.

The best penalty-killing team in the league, the Wave played a man down for almost four consecutive minutes in the second quarter after penalties on JP Rodrigues and then Hammes. But that sequence ended with no KiXX goals and the Wave leading 4-2. Giuliano Oliviero then gave Milwaukee a 6-2 lead with the first of his two goals.

The KiXX responded with a pair of goals on either side of the halftime break to knot the score, before Hammes responded with 5:01 remaining in the quarter. From the right wing he unleashed a bomb to Sanaldo's far right that wasn't touched for his first 3-pointer of the season. Rookie Tom Oatley received the assist for his first professional point.

"I happened to be standing right behind him on the bench, and I saw it going in all the way," Tozer said.

With the lead, the Wave were able to push the margin to 13-6 before the KiXX brought on Ricardinho as the sixth attacker and knocked home a pair of goals in the final 4 minutes to get within one possession at 13-10. Milwaukee clinched the game with 13 seconds remaining, however, as Travis MacKenzie dished to Ian Bennett for an easy putaway.

MacKenzie led the Wave with two goals and that assist for five points. Nine different Wave players tallied at least one point.

Marcel Feenstra was the winning keeper for the Wave with 16 saves.

Milwaukee plays its final road game of the year on Sunday at Rockford at 5 p.m. The Wave return home Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. against Rockford.
