Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (March 2, 2005) - Milwaukee Wave Vice President of Soccer Operations and Head Coach Keith Tozer announced today that the team has activated veteran defender, Lovelace Ackah, from the Injured Reserve. Ackah had been on the Injured Reserve since early December with a fifth metatarsal fracture of his left foot.
Ackah participated in three games early in the 2005-06 season, contributing three blocks and being named the MISL's Defensive Player of the Week on November 7 after the Wave's 6-3 season opening victory over the Chicago Storm. He played in the team's next two games before being place on the injured reserve.
"We are very excited about having Lovelace back in our lineup," Tozer said. "His experience, ability and leadership in the back are crucial going into the last month of the season."
Ackah is in his seventh season, all of which have been with the Milwaukee Wave. In 229 career games, Ackah has contributed 28 goals and 35 assists for 88 points. Defensively, he has blocked 318 shots, good for fourth place in the Wave's 22 year history. The Kumasi, Ghana, native has been named an All-Star three times and was a member of the All-Rookie First Team after the 1999-00 season.
The Milwaukee Wave was established in 1984 as one of six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA). In 2001, the Wave transitioned to being a successful member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Through the guidance of head coach Keith Tozer, the winningest coach in Wave and North American indoor soccer history, the Wave has won four league titles (1997-98, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2004-05), seven regular season championships, and has made seven championship series appearances. The Wave plays at home in the US Cellular Arena located in downtown Milwaukee.
