
Wave Acquires Another First Round Draft Pick

(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave indoor soccer club of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that it has traded the rights of veteran defender Neil Gilbert to the Harrisburg Heat for Harrisburg's first round choice in the 2003 MISL Amateur Draft. With the acquisition of Harrisburg's pick the Wave will now have three first round selections including its own, and San Diego's, which was acquired in an earlier deal with the Sockers that sent forward Aaron Susi and defender Matt Johnson to San Diego.
"We believe that next year's senior college class will be very strong, so with this trade we will three first round draft picks in the upcoming MISL Draft," said Wave Coach / Vice President of Soccer Operations Keith Tozer. "It was also a chance to help Neal, who was in our camp last year, get an opportunity with another team."
The 33-year old Gilbert is a seven year NPSL / MISL veteran who last played with the Detroit Rockers during the 2000-01 season. He has 54 goals and 51 assists for 158 points in 224 regular season games. The Argentina native has also compiled 245 blocks and 194 penalty minutes in a career that includes stints with six different clubs.
The Wave, which currently tops the MISL's Western Conference with a record of 15-5, returns to action Saturday night (1/18) when it takes on the Cleveland Force in Cleveland (6:05 PM kick-off / 5:45 PM air time on WRRD, 540 AM).
