
Watkins leads BayBears to third straight win

Mobile, Ala. â BayBears right-hander, Steve Watkins followed the lead set by all of Mobile's starting staff as he picked up his first win of the season defeating the Orlando Rays Saturday night, 2-1. The BayBears starting pitchers had posted a 1.60 ERA entering play Saturday. Watkins (1-1) threw six and one-thirds innings, allowing one run and five hits while striking out three. Rusty Tucker earned his third save in as many chances, as he worked a perfect ninth inning.
Rico Washington continued his hot hitting lining a solo homerun over the wall in right to give the BayBears a 1-0 lead. Mobile added their second tally in the bottom of the sixth as Jon Knott drove in Rich Gomez with an opposite field base hit. Knott was 3-for-4 on the night with a double.
The BayBears (6-10) will host the Rays (7-9) Sunday night in game three of their series at 7:05. RHP Brad Baker (0-2) will face LHP Jon Switzer (1-1). The BayBears are also hosting an Easter egg hunt at Hank Aaron Stadium beginning at 5:30. All kids 12-and-under get in free with the gates opening at 5:00.
