Mobile, ALA â For the second straight night, the Orlando Rays didn't have quite enough to get past the Mobile BayBears, falling 2-1 in Southern League action Saturday.
After earning no-decisions in his first two outings, Rays' starting pitcher Jose Veras (0-1) took the loss, allowing one earned run on four hits over 5.0 IP. The hard-throwing right-hander entered the contest with a 0.60 ERA and has only given up two earned runs in 20.0 innings of work this year.
The Rays' tough luck in one-run contests continued Saturday, as Orlando dropped their second straight one-run game. In falling to the BayBears, the Rays' record in one-run games fell to 3-5.
OF Matt Diaz led the attack for the Rays, going 2-4 and extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Gabby Martinez and Chairon Isenia each added two hits for Orlando, who fell to 7-9 on the season and dropped their second straight. In both contests the Rays have stranded eight runners.
